– This episode of Nerdist News Edition is sponsored by CW’s Batwoman. We’ve got nine questions
that need to be answered in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Now we’re still a few months out from the Rise of Skywalker,
and while we continue to parse through trailers,
posters, interviews, and Lego leaks to find even a
portion of new information– – One quarter portion. – We still don’t know a ton of specifics about the film itself. Last we saw at the end of the Last Jedi, the Resistance was left
to put their version of an intergalactic
college recruitment day on while the First Order
was licking its wounds and tightening its grasp on the galaxy. And that’s actually about all we know. But with Episode IX closing
out the epic trilogy of trilogies, we still have so many things that we need to know
about the Skywalker Saga. So today, we’re going to be narrowing down the
nine questions J.J. Abrams and the company must answer
in Star Wars Episode IX. Now number one: the biggest question. Will J.J. Abrams retcon Rey’s
parentage in Episode IX. We got an answer in the Last Jedi, courtesy of direct Rian
Johnson who had Rey admit that her parents were nobodies. Both by seeing herself
alone in the Force Cave on Octo and by Kylo Ren
destroying Rey’s self esteem. – They were filthy jump traders who sold you off for drinking money. – Wow, cool boyfriend. But he wasn’t done there. – You have no place in this story. You come from nothing, you’re nothing. – Yikes (laughs). All right, let’s see if
he can save this and– – But not to me. – Ay! Flirting 101, courtesy of the
whitest Solo in the universe. Anyways, this explanation
of Rey’s parentage, along with the whole of the Last Jedi, left some fans disappointed
to say the least. Considering that J.J.’s the
one who set up the mystery of Rey’s parents in the first place back in The Force Awakens–
– They’ll be back. – We can see a world where he does a bit of creative rejiggering
to give Rey somebodies as her parents/family, but just who could
these family members be? Well, our first candidate also leads us into our next question. Number two: what’s goin’
on with Emperor Palpatine? – A surprise, to be
sure, but a welcome one. – Since the Rise of Skywalker’s
teaser back in April, fans have been wondering how Sheev will show up in the final
installment in the saga. Will he be playing the final big bad? Is he only gonna be in
like a scene or two? We don’t know, obviously,
this is something that J.J. can’t not
answer, and we’re curious how it’s all gonna play out. – We will watch your
career with great interest. – Speaking of careers,
our question number three. Now we’ve all been watching Rey’s career with great interest, and
fans have been asking this big question that
needs to be answered in the Rise of Skywalker. What side of the Force will Rey land on at the end of Episode IX? We saw Rey contemplate the Dark Side in the Last Jedi, and the D23 preview of the Rise of Skywalker ended with Rey wielding a double-sided red light saber. While it’s pretty
unlikely that we’d see Rey fully commit to the Dark
Side, seeing her maybe move a bit towards the middle,
ala the Gray Jedi, isn’t outside the realm of possibility. – Maybe.
– Number four: another possibility that
looms over the final episode in the Skywalker Saga is one
of immense character depth. Who lives, who dies, who’s going to survive this epic saga? One candidate that
we’re a little concerned about losing is Po Dameron. Now we know that J.J.
almost killed him off in The Force Awakens,
only to bring him back because Oscar Isaac is
just too darn handsome and good at piloting. So it wouldn’t be surprising
to have J.J. finish the job that he almost started. Plus, a heroic death would honestly fit in with Po’s character arc in the Last Jedi where Po learned what
it meant to be a leader and the cost inherit when
you go against the grain. Now this obviously isn’t
something that we want to happen, but it is a question that we
have going into this film. Number five: from one
Resistance leader to another, what will J.J. do with General Leia in the Rise of Skywalker? Now as we’ve previously
mentioned, J.J. Abrams has been working with footage
from the Force Awakens and the Last Jedi, and the
late Carrie Fischer’s daughter, Billie Lourd, has given her approval and even praised J.J. for how he’s handled Fischer’s absence. However, we still have some concerns, like how much screen time
will Leia get in the movie? Will we see Leia pass away in Episode IX? Will there be any digital
effects, ala Rogue One? We’ll just have to wait
until the Rise of Skywalker hits theaters for more answers
on this particular number. Number six: in terms of other characters with question marks by their names, will we see the Force
ghosts of Anakin Skywalker in Episode IX? With Hayden Christensen doing press events with Palpatine actor, Ian
McDiarmid, on the roster, and with the rumors swirling
that the Rise of Skywalker will tie all three trilogies together, an additional Hayden cameo is something that fans have either been dreading or hoping for, depending on
their certain point of view when it comes to the prequels. – A certain point of view? – An Anakin Force ghost appearance could even open the door to
other Force ghosts popping up in Episode IX, like Yoda,
who we saw in the Last Jedi, Luke Skywalker maybe, or
Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon Jinn, who knows! There’s even rumors of
a Han Solo Force ghost, but that’d be insane, right? – Never tell me the odds. – Number seven: moving on from
Jedi to former Stormtroopers, much of the sequel
trilogy’s emotion bandwidth and evolution has been carried by Finn, formerly known as FN-2187. We know that Finn was
taken from his family as a child and put into
the Stormtrooper program, only to have that backfire with Finn up and joining the Resistance. While the Last Jedi didn’t
touch on Finn’s origins at all, fans have been wondering
if we’d get any closure about his family and backstory
in the Rise of Skywalker. All we do know is that the
way that Finn got his name is approximately 1,000 times better than how Han Solo got his. – I’m alone. – Han… Solo. – No, come on. No! – That’s not enough. Finn, I’m gonna call you
Finn, is that all right? – Yeah! Much better. Number eight: staying
on the topic of Finn, now we know his relationship
status is also up in the air for the Rise of Skywalker. Along with the state of all
the other Star Wars ships, who do you think will end up with who? Are Rose and Finn endgame,
will Finn and Po hook up, are Rey and Kylo gonna kiss on the mouth, will Hux finally join Space Tinder? We really hope so. And finally, the last question that J.J. has to answer in the Rise of Skywalker, will Kylo Ren get redeemed
and become Ben Solo once more? Kylo’s been struggling with the conflict between the dark and the light within throughout the course
of the sequel trilogy, and he came pretty close to flipping sides in the Last Jedi, if we remember that whole
halving Snoke thing. However, with his status as Supreme Leader being fully cemented after that, it seems that Kylo’s
embracing his inner bad boy and tightening his grip on the galaxy. Will he get Vadered and
make a big sacrifice in Episode IX, or will
Rey reject him again and beat him for good? – Don’t do this, Ben. – December is luckily
just a few months away, and those are the nine questions
that J.J. needs to answer in the Rise of Skywalker that
we’re gonna be thinking about every waking moment until then. Whether we’ll actually get these answers, well, that remains to be seen. And we know we’ll walk
away from Episode IX with approximately
1,000 more, but for now, we’ll just have to wait
until the film hits theaters. But what do you folks think? What do you want to see
in the Rise of Skywalker? Will you be disappointed if
there’s any major retcons? And will Reylo be canon
for you and for real? Let’s discuss. Thanks again to CW’s Batwoman for sponsoring today’s episode. Three years after the
disappearance of Bruce Wayne, Gotham City has a new protector, Batwoman. However, in order to become
the city’s symbol of hope, Kate Kane must first
overcome her own demons. Her time is now. Catch the new series,

I have zero questions for the new Star Wars movie. I was politely let off the hook. See I'm a white man and I was told not to worry about it and by expressing concern I'm pushing the patriarchy. I'm just going to give all my money to see in Rambo 9 more times. Sure this one feels kind of phone then but he didn't accuse me of being a misogynist for my opinion

you know what this trilogy is missing? A Rancor. You put a Rancor in this movie and boom trilogy complete. A Rancor. All of your problems are solved with a Rancor. A Rancor with a double sided lightsaber. A Sith Rancor.

Hopefully Rey already has a feeling that her parents are Leia & Han basically once more she's a new version of Jaina Solo, Organa with all of them learning that Anakin's true dad was Palpatine who as I always believe he raped his mom then used force mind trick to wipe her memories. I hope they follow the expanded Universe and leave him evil so that now in this version his younger sister would kill Jacen/Darth Caedus er.. I mean Kylo. I would like to see Finn becoming a Jedi since he is Kyle Katarn in this universe. Hopefully he and Rey can live almost happily until new threat arises. They better explain who was that sith Lord already forgot his name that Kylo killed. So he can become Master.

2:44 was confirmed to be only a vision of a dark future self and nothing more. Last Jedi already gave the whole dark side temptation possibility which was just to hype people to watch the movie.

Also I’m just gonna politely mention that i don’t really care for these kind of videos for Star Wars anymore (which is sad cause i used to love them) since recent films have been such a let down. For me, Rise of Skywalker will either make or break Star Wars for me and will probably decide whether i continue wanting to watch future Star Wars films with any hope of them being good

Actually, Kylo Ren's murder of Snoke is very much in line with the ideology of the Sith, where the apprentice kills the master and assumes the leadership role. If he's going so far as to kill his master, I'd say Ben's going to stay evil, and possibly die evil. And honestly, I would prefer that. Makes for much better storytelling than having him do a Return of the Jedi redemption.

But, but… he said it! What are they going to do now—act like what Kylo said doesn't matter?
Psh. These videos honestly don't help socially- and emotionally-stunted nerds cope better. They need help telling reality apart from fantasy, not things that confuse the two even more and leave them depressed about one and raging at the other.

Ray is a Palpatine clone. Luke said that she when right to the dark, then she had the force vision… many of herself doing the same things. Then the trailer, herself as a sith with normal eyes, misleading sins Palpatine was a sith and had normal eyes up until his misfortune.

Rise of “Skywalker” – Um… this entire flick gonna be centered on Luke’s Force Ghost? Anakin’s? Someone else a “Skywalker?”

    Question 10: Who’s “Skywalker?”

These are all great questions, but my big one is: Who is Snoke? What is his larger connection to the story? Does he have any connection to Palaptine? To the original characters (Luke, Han, Leia)? I am afraid that he will just be ignored (unless there is some big reveal or twist regarding the character). If they never mention him or explaining anything else about his character (in RoS specifically; I’m not excluding comics or book etc) , I will be a bit disappointed just because it will come off as a bit lazy from a storytelling perspective.

I liked how Kylo kills him in TLJ and Kylo takes his place, but I hope that at least make his character have more relevance or significance to the overall “Skywalker saga”, then just some “random old evil guy” that is kinda like the Emperor. That comes off really lazy to me and would be kinda lame, even if everything in RoS is great, I’ll be kinda bummed about it, and all the “mystery” with his character was just smoke and mirrors.

He better be like Darth Plagueis or something like that (but I know he is not technically a Sith, just merely a Dark Side user)
