Hey guys welcome back again to Ken
Tamplin Vocal Academy where the proof is in the singing. Hey I got a few requests for this and that’s ELO and the singer-songwriter is
Jeff Lynne. Now Jeff was just a phenomenally talented guy, I mean he even
did orchestration- string orchestrations for the Beatles and you know and whatnot. So he comes from a very cool orchestral background and very smart, kind of like
Queen you know meets a lot of the cool like you know kind of rock opera-ishy
bands from back in the 70s and Jeff was no exception just to excellence. So in
addition to a couple of the tunes we’re gonna do here, I went ahead and I made a list of myself to remind me of songs that he’s done
like “Don’t Bring Me Down”, “Telephone Line” “Turned To Stone”, “Can’t Get It Out Of My Head”, “Strange Magic” and some other stuff. So if you guys are so inclined you
should kind of Google some of these songs cause he’s just a phenomenal
songwriter. You probably heard them somewhere before like maybe in an
elevator or possibly at a grocery store but you have heard this music somewhere I’m
sure of it. But anyway I want to go ahead and react to Jeff Lynn and ELO and
let’s do this here we go. Love that. Great songs man. Grew up on this stuff. It’s kinda like the soundtrack to my life..this stuff. Did you guys grow up with this? Probably not. it’s nice It’s like Stevie Wonder. Nice groove. Good song. Now it’s kind of interesting you know
being as orchestrally minded as he is, he’s just going (sings) but he’s so creative with the way he phrases his stuff, the melodic
choices that he has, the orchestration behind it. He can hang on just a few
chords and make it sound really cool and come up with a lot of creative stuff and keep your attention as opposed to the monotony of the chords going by. He’s
able to really draw out a lot from that so here’s the next section. He sings very light. Some sexy piano. See its got the same groove over and over again but there’s so much to play off of you know. Sing it with me. Oh here we go. I haven’t seen this either. It’s good. Another great song man. You know it’s got that kind of strumming kind of
like the Traveling Wilburys or something you know like a Roy Orbison, Orbison say that 3 times fast (sounds) anyway but it’s got that just kind
of you know everyone can sing along vibe like the Eagles you know “Take It Easy”
you know it’s got that just that great song writing vibe, this is awesome. There’s the ABBA vocals. I remember roller skating to this when I was about 10. Something like that. I love these period pieces these um you
know dated pieces like this because you get to see what everybody was wearing, kind of like you know. Hey this is retro now, this is actually cool so don’t make fun
of me but anyway but I just I like you know period pieces where you get to see kind of what they really wore. You know annoys me like when I see movies like
that 70s show is a TV show not a movie but movies you know they try to you know
put it back in the period of like 1970s or 60s or whatever and when you live
through it you go that’s not like the 70s, you’re trying to make it look like
the 70s but man you ain’t cool you ain’t hardcore until you live hardcore right. So you
weren’t..you didn’t grow up in it so a lot of these people just you know buy different um you know movie attire and whatnot and and outfits and you know and
they’re trying to put it together make it look 70s this is legit, this is the real thing right here. Look at the green outfit. Like Fiddler on a Roof. Come on tell me he doesn’t look like
Pete Townsend from The Who right there playing violin just sayin, here we go. A little bit. Who’s that from (sings) what’s that song come on help
me out guys write it in the in the not description, in the comment sections. I
forget what it is. I’ll think of it in a minute, here we go. Kind of interesting to have the drummer that far forward like that they’re usually in back right. Cool. Great stuff man like I said this
stuff was kinda the soundtrack to my life though I was more in to Led Zeppelin and
you know Deep Purple, Aerosmith and whatnot but just talented great, fabulous
band ELO. I strongly recommend checking out their stuff. I have a singing course
called How to Sing Better than Anyone Else for anyone interested and we walk
through all kinds of music. Old, new and everything in between. I have a free singing forums at Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy.com. Come down

His voice has held up well. Never the most dynamic singer, but very tasteful. And as a songwriter, he's among the best. Great breakdown, Ken!

As an older person, I believe the song you are trying to remember at 7 minutes in is "I Will Follow Him" by Little Peggy March released in the early 1960's and was also used in the movie Sister Act. Of course it could be dozens of other songs as well. Jeff Lynne a very talented guy and revived Tom Petty's career as well.

Love this stuff, I was more into Genesis, but there was a lot of good music back then.
Good stuff now too, like KZ Tandigan. LOL, I am going to nag until we get Rolling in the Deep, Singer 2018.
Guess I would settle for Royals. Nah, no settling, do both. Say Anything almost has to be on its own, just too emotional
All three would be great for your students to see.

What a song !!! Goes with Zepplins lyrics " soul of a woman was created below " … Oh how many men have been fools of … His singing is mezmarizing and compelling one to even strut a bit walking to get a beer listening to it , I gave up drinking , but still rock is rock and my sobriety wont kill it Amen …😊🐼

"Evil woman" That was the same rhythm as "All along the watchtower". You should have done the song when he said he Loves Satan, that was a big thing in the 70-80's

Just saw him in the band in July. Oh I'm so glad that you're doing this and I will share it all over Facebook Jeff Lynne ELO pages. Everybody's going to be so happy that you did this. He is a genius. I put him on the same level as Alan Parsons. He has done it all. Thanks so much I haven't even watched the video yet but I had to just put this on cuz this is very exciting Ken. I'm sure I'll have more comments for you. All this is so great I'm smiling so much right now.

You know he was in Traveling Wilburys, right? Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, George Harrison oh oh Bob Dylan and Jeff. There's a song called Handle With care that they do in their concert and George Harrison's son dhani Harrison sings the part of his dad. Phenomenal and I'm so happy that you love ELO. You should see the people on Facebook because the concert this year was the best concert I've ever been to in my entire life and I've probably been to over 120 or so concerts in my lifetime.
