What’s up! This is Tim with Tactics, and I’m here to help you find the best type of skateboard for you. Standard skateboards are the most popular type because they work well for skate parks, street skating, and almost all other types of riding. We recommend
these skateboards for beginners because they’re lightweight and versatile. The decks are nearly symmetrical with upturned kicks on the nose and tail, and an average length of 32 inches. They work best with standard skateboard trucks and
50 to 55 millimeter wheels. Cruiser boards are designed for transportation and are
great for short-range trips across town or to a store. Since travel is the main
concern, cruisers have bigger softer wheels allowing you to roll smoothly
over cracks and rough pavement. These boards have kick tails and are similar in size to standard skateboards, making them ideal in situations where you need to make a sudden sharp turn or ollie up and down a few curbs. Since tricks are less important on a cruiser, there’s a large variety of unique deck shapes to choose from. Longboards are large stable boards that are ideal for casual cruising, pushing longer distances, and skating fast down hills. They’re also great for beginners because their large platform makes it easy to learn how to balance. Although longboards are typically ridden with wider trucks and big soft wheels, they come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes and are highly customizable for many types of riding.
