Hey, I'm Tera, your Banff contributor for
tuja wellness. And I'm about to take a snowshoe walk around
Marble Canyon in Kootenay National Park. Snowshoeing is a great affordable way to enjoy
the winter weather, and it's super easy to learn. I haven't gone myself in a few years, so let's
try it out. To get to Marble Canyon from Banff, drive
West on Highway 1 towards Lake Louise for about 20 minutes or so, when you get to Castle
Mountain junction, it should say a sign that says Radium Hot Springs, so turn off there. And then take a left down on the 93 for about
another 15 minutes or so. The Marble Canyon parking lot should be on
the righthand side of the road and there should be a sign there to let you know you've reached
it. Marble Canyon trail is about 1.5 km round
trip, and it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to a few hours, depending on how long you
take your time. There is no cell reception once you get off
Highway 1, so make sure you bring everything you need with you, and tell others where you're
going. Marble Canyon is about 40 metres deep, and
that makes it a popular area for ice climbers and snowshoers in the winter. You can see the landscape here is a bit different
from Banff, and that's because of the forest fires that came through here several years
ago. So it gives the hike a bit of a unique, beautiful
feel, in just amount of time. This hike is pretty straightforward, just
follow along the trail, and across the series of bridges that criss cross the canyon, once
you get to the second bridge, the trail will split, you can either go on the right or the
left, and just follow along the trail until the path meets again. Once you reach the end of the trail, you'll
get a clear view of the creek that creates the canyon. This is a great spot to stop for a snack and
take in the view. And there's also a few benches along the way. I hope you had fun with me on our snowshoe
walk today! And if you like the video, let us know in
the comments below. See you next time!
