because you wont believe our number one spot and leave us a comment down below if hype
for a video game ever misled you. While you ponder that lets jump into todays
list of the Top 10 Big Lies Told by Gaming Developers #10 Mass Effect 3 Ending
(show photo https://bit.ly/31txF9v) Over the span of the first two games developers
at BioWare had promised their fans something big was coming for the third installment. More specifically that your actions finally
had a big role in the plot of the game and each of your decisions would create a unique
ending. Sounds great, also sounds really ambitious. Director Casey Hudson had even stated that
he wouldnt just boil the ending down to an A, B, or C choice, but that every fan would
get something different. However that just wasnt the case and when
players finally reached the ending of the game they were met with exactly an A, B, or
C choice that would close the trilogy in one of three ways. Before that even you have this really long
chat with this hologram boy, it was weird but he does end up at least explaining what
each of the three choices will do to end the game. You can either destroy the reapers, control
the reapers or you can synthesize making everything in the galaxy a synthetic organic hybrid because
Mass Effect. #9 False Promises
Back in 2011 Battlefield was looking for a way to gain an edge over their call of duty
competition. They had built a decent fan base but were
nowhere close to matching the kind of player retention that COD was having. In order to sweeten the deal for those looking
to switch over to a nearly identical game, EA announced that if you were to pre-order
Battlefield 3 you would be rewarded with a completely free game on the same disc called
Battlefield 1943. Which honestly was more fun than the main
game. It gave Sony the opportunity to be braggadocious
with their exclusive deal and EA got to rack up a ton of pre-orders. Ws on the board for everyone right? Wrong. When the game was finally released fans immediately
noticed that the free game they were promised wasnt included. There was no heads up, there was no email,
there was no pop up window upon starting the game saying – we regret to inform you – nothing. So as angry gamers do they took to Twitter
to unleash their frustration. Their response to this was weak if anything
(show photo https://bit.ly/2yPwu84) It reads – In lieu of 1943 being available on disk
for PS3 customers, EA has made all BF3 expansions available early to PS3 customers.- This wasnt
good enough for fans and it would take the threat of a class-action lawsuit for false
advertisement to finally give the company motivation to fulfill their end of the bargain. #8 Misleading Promo
(show photo https://bit.ly/2YTuIBq) Keeping on the EA lies lets give you another. Back when the promotions were running for
EAs NHL 09 the listed a review on the back of the cover art that would make you believe
this is going to be the greatest hockey game in history. It says and I quote – Winner of Seven Sports
video game of the year awards – Which would make you wonder how could this game been awarded
before its even been released. The truth was that it never did. The statement was in regards to their previous
game, but EA was totally cool with making many think it was this game that had won. #7 Hunt The Truth
(show photo https://bit.ly/2ZM1ceb) Developed by 343 Industries the lies for Halo
5 began from the very first day it was revealed showing Master Chief wandering in a desert. The advertisements continued to promote to
players waiting for the game that they will have to Hunt The Truth. The trailers would go on to lie a little more
and show two separate perspectives of the Chief and the new playable character Locke,
yet once players began they soon found out that the opposing perspectives were never
part of the game. They even built up a story of the Chief becoming
the villain and Locke was hunting him down believing he had betrayed his people. Yet again when it came to the actual gameplay
none of this relationship was ever really capitalized on. #6 Battlefront 2s Empire Focus
(show photo https://bit.ly/2KoziPU) Although the majority of complaints for Star
Wars Battlefront 2 came by way of its multiplayer and EAs loot boxes, the big lie from their
development team was the campaign mode. Initially they had promised fans of the series
that the campaign mode would be all about the perspective of the Empire. Which would give Battlefront Bros the chance
to see their precious Star Wars universe from the dark side and play through a story as
the villain instead of the hero. The developers promised that they were committed
to this perspective and would refrain from plot twists of your character switching sides. Unfortunately thats exactly what happened. They did allow you to fight with the Empire,
but then about half-way through the campaign mode they forced you to switch and work with
the rebels. #5 Arkham Knights Villain
The Batman Arkham Knight video game developed by Rocksteady Studios was such a highly anticipated
release because it was the finale to their Batman trilogy. They knew that in order to do this right though
the story would have to be free from relying on the insanity of the Joker. With the character being without a doubt killed
in the first sequel the villain torch had to be passed over to their Arkham Knight character
(show photo https://bit.ly/33qnK6c). The idea that Rocksteady had concocted this
entirely original creation was exciting and with the opening scene of the Jokers corpse
being cremated we all took their lies hook line and sinker. Of course though this didnt last long and
before we knew it the Joker would reappear as a figment of Batmans imagination and yet
again being the sole driver of the games narrative. #4 Broken Destiny
Developed by Bungie the original Destiny game was plagued with controversy and diaster leading
up to its release. The story for the game had been worked on
for years by their writers only for it to be all thrown out just six short months before
its release and then tossed together like a last minute art project. As such, with all of the massive changes the
promotion for the game became increasingly difficult and on more than one occasion the
developers would swallow their words after promising what they just couldnt deliver. During the multiplayer integration display
the devs remarked at how seamless it all would be, how you could explore other planets and
enjoy new raids with each DLC. All promises that would end up being false. #3 The Xbox One
Before the Xbox one console was released in 2013 they were already faced with backlash
from fans with many calling out Microsofts for its creepiness. Reports had been released that the console
would require users to be online 24-7, it would block used games and heres where the
creepiness comes in, its kinect camera was always on. Meaning that if Microsoft wanted to they could
easily tap into your camera. Its like a surveillance system you set up
in your own home without knowing. The big lie however was much more devious. A secret PR campaign was launched to change
this image of the Xbox One. Microsoft enlisted the help of game-centric
YouTube network Machinima to pay their five biggest streaming personalities a total of
30,000 dollars to pump up the system (show photo https://bit.ly/31x9rej) The YouTubers
would mention how excited they were for the Xbox and showcase certain games to influence
the market into wanting to buy from Microsoft again. #2 Fallout 76
Bethesda games doesnt have the best reputation when it comes to following through with their
promises and the worst part is they know this (play video 2:32-2:42 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WREidENJ8w). Fallout 76 was no different, they overly hyped
up this giant immersive world set in Appalachia 25 years after the great war. You had Todd Howard on stage boasting about
how great the details were going to be (play video 4:25-4:35 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WREidENJ8w)
16 times the detail doesnt mean 16 times better. It means 16 more ways they could mess this
game up. The game never really stood a chance from
the beginning after players had waited hours to download it they were met with an error
requiring many to restart the download process all over again. #1 No Mans Sky
Also known as the story of one mans lie (play video 0:29-0:39 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVrDaudzn64)
Of all these lies this game is the king of false promises and big let downs. Although we should have known a game talking
up such wild features would have been too good to be true. We all wanted this not to be the case. You would see the developers continuously
altering their pitch for the game as the promotions went on. It started as there will for sure be interactions
with other players, then went to theres a low probability of meeting other players in
game and finally arriving at theres no possible way (play video 2:06-2:16 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVrDaudzn64)
The vast disappointment upon finally playing the game resulted in the internet renaming
it No Mans Lie. And that has been the Top 10 Big Lies Told
by Gaming Developers. Thank you so much for watching and if you
