Hi Dave, re Khorkina documentary and her not eating , her mum clearly said she was not eating so they wanted her to do gymnastics so she will eat. Not sure why you are implying that it is good for gymnastics when you do not eat.

How are Isabelle Duchesnay and Paul Duchesnay after their retirement? Their 1992 Olympic silver medal performance was the ONLY one time that I thought I could accept their being in 1st place where the music was not my favor. They were simply the TOP even today. Because their program was so fresh, difficult, well-crafted (many many words…..) in a Soviet classic dominance. Marina Klimova and Sergei Ponomarenko’s 1992 Olympic gold medal performance is also one of the few I watch now and then for the past 20 years and still love watching. I meant the long-lasting classic top performances in figure skating world are just a handful.

I wonder how did Medvedeva become 2 time World champ, and Olympic medalist with bad skating skills and jumps? Are all those judges crazy? You say it's just because she didn't fall? And her bronze at Worlds this year, of course, is just a gift from judges? Very interesting perception, thank you, guys now I understand. And as she's done there's clearly no need to hype on her in almost every episode😉

I will nevet forget Svetlans Khorkina's mood during the 2000 Olympics. Or her shaking her head when she got a low score for her vault in the 2004 AA final. Such a diva. "I cannot watch the 2000 Olympics, it's a black spot in my soul". Khorkina was the Mariah Carey of gymnastics.

I went to CSOI and it's true… while Evgenia has a wonderful personality and meshes so well with the cast, you can see the difference in her skating skills. There's a point in some of the group numbers where she and Kaetlyn go out together and it's noticeable. Plus her spins… I'm a big fan of Medvedeva and I hope that she makes her mark amid all the new crop Russian teen quadrunners and stays relevant, but I hope her skating skills and spin improve.

Also I think the downward trend for ice show is largely due to the lack of fans, which is the result of less memorable skaters. If we cannot remember that skater, why we would show up for someone we are not sure of. You are right that sometimes medals (including gold medals) does not bring the audience memorable performances or striking individualities that will inspire the audience. Like I first notice Yuzuru was when I saw his determination of competing after his clash with another skater. That spirit made me follow his career. Lu Chen did the same to inspire me.

I followed through the whole 2014 Sochi season (2010-2014) for Meryle and Charlie as their skills and hardwork showed in their performances which moved me. And I did not miss once for their competitions.

For Medvedva, if she can fight her way to the 2022 Winter Olympic podium, that will be another great story not only for her but for audience like us. Just like Lu Chen said that her second Olympic bronze medal meant a lot than the first one as the second Olympic medal was the best reward for her persistence throughout her struggle of body change and her battle to get her jumpping ability back.

Lu Chen and Denis Petrov are coaching at a prestigious ice rink in Shenzhen,, a city bordering north Hong Kong. This city is the economically strongest city in south China. Lu Chen once said in a media interview that her husband and her interested in making figure skating a popular sport among children in China, not being a coach for a top-notch athlete. This is true as Chinese parents (rich or poor) spend their money without hesitation for their only one child. This is very lucrative. Also they do achieve the goal of getting more kids on the ice.

Just saw an article Lu Chen invested approximately US$3.1 million for their second ice rink in Beijing in 2017. They became business investors and managers thanks to the winter sports fever brought by 2022 Winter Olympic in Beijing.

I wish Gracie the best and would love for her to come back on her own terms, but it’s wayyy to early to speculate about how Gracie would be scored. She had some big elements, but judges also scored her a bit favorably at times because she was on the A list in terms of contenders. Also, as someone who has enjoyed Adam’s skating and personality in the past, I’m really glad that they didn’t turn SOI into The Adam Show. I feel like both Adam and Mariah are both so much better than a Work Bitch program. Sigh.

In the UK I feel like we’d value the ice dance gold more than the singles one just because T&D are considered the pinnacle of the discipline for us.

Ask anyone on the street who John Curry, Robin Cousins or Jeannette Altwegg are and they won’t know.

Is there any chance in hell the USFS will take some moonshots before the sport becomes a rec league in the US? Peak membership was 05-06 at 195K. Today it’s 181K And a budget of only $18M? That’s a joke. They need to pack up their sh*t, leave Colorado Springs and set up shop in Las Vegas where they can hire a creative team to generate money and exposure year-round for the team. Centralize the coaching and training in Vegas, make the athletes accessible, appearances, endorsements, public speaking, lessons for tourists. Tons of ways to generate cash if they could get off their a$$ and take a few risks. What’s to lose at this point?

You’re so knowledgeable and you clearly have great sources (which is why i watch) but again, you stoop so low. Why on earth would you spend even a minute discussing how a person ended up with a child? It’s absolutely none of your business. It has nothing to do with skating and it’s 100% inappropriate. And maybe try to stay away from racial stereotypes too!

I wanted to comment in another video, but I guess I would say it here. I feel that TSL does commentary best when it is focused on the sport and the athletes with objective analysis and opinion that is not laced with aggressive snark for laughs. I really appreciate the videos on the question of Russian athletic inclusion in the Pyeongchang Olympics and the use of drug enhancements in the sport, on Gracie Gold's recovery and sporting achievement, and the news reporting on John Coughlin's death and behaviour. These had thoughtful and insightful conversation for others to engage in. The mean comments and 'shade' to be 'sassy' and entertaining is where I find it hard to listen. I have seen Dave comment that he doesn't think athletes should be coddled. There is a difference between not reporting on behaviour and trends that is detrimental to the sport and flat out laughing at terrible situations or purposely positioning support that masks as ill will e.g. Mariah Bell and Eun Soo incident. All these events are always complex and nuanced, and like any other sport and situation, is influenced by political, racial, gender and other social dynamics. I guess the more 'constructive' criticism you get, the more defensive one can be, and humour is often used as a defence mechanism. That said, I wish both hosts the best and godspeed.

Erm… agreed on Medvedeva skating skills, still can’t understand why judges continue to give her high scores for that and her PCS. Also, so many people skated to the same song why is she so petty and unprofessional on it ? Not like she owns the song.if she has already planned on skating to it then go ahead. No point calling other skaters/choreographer copycat. Didn’t she also choreographed her own EX previous and copied some moves from
    Danil G choreography.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Gracie is why we need Landover back. NBC would have a field day promoting her story. They could have Mirai and her story. Ashley could be like the Katarina Witt. Of course I’d love to have Mao, Yuna, Adelina, Yulia and Carolina. Patrick Chan could be like the Brian Boitano and win every year for like 5 years and of course Javi could be like the Scott Hamilton fan favorite. On another note I went to Stars on Ice in Worcester MA. It was sad. The arena was only 1/3 full. Ashley and Nathan were by far my favorites. I really wish they could have had more international skaters. Or the Canadian tour and the US tour could combine. You guys are right a pair team or two would be great. Back in the day Brasseur and Eisler, Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze were my favorites in Champions on Ice. Well other than the The Kween and Brian Boitano. Also I did the Meet and Greet and each and every skater admired my enthusiasm.

Where have you guys been my whole life? I was a gymnast growing up but have watched figure skating for forever, doing double axels on the floor. This channel has gotten me more interested in figure skating again. I stopped watching consistently after Michelle Kwan quit. Good show, and some of Dave's reactions are right on and make me laugh.

My understanding of Kostornaya's programs is that they were planning on keeping the angel short but Alena asked for the twilight one. So if they get to challenges and it's really not going great they can always default back to plan A.

Let the Alysa Liu hype train begin I say. Can't wait to see how she matches up against the new Russian crop. Eteri has some pretty strong girls like Valieva, Usacheva, and Khromykh. I know Valieva is amazing but I'm not as confident about the other 2 girls yet. That's why I was so excited to see Kanysheva join the team and start doing quads, I think she could be a big help. It's too bad Akatieva is not old enough for the JGP this season.

Dude! When I see a gymnast's name in the title of a TSL vid, I basically faint from happiness. If you look at khorkina's technique and leg/foot form in her 2004 vault, she was lucky to get into the high 9.4s. She was like kristin Maloney, but with none of the charm. ::endearing smirk:: And remember the way she went off on Lobaznyuk and Zamo after beam in 2000!?…like she hadn't just fallen on her best event? No doubt Russia was the best team in Sydney, but it's not like she didn't have a share of the blame. Also, don't you at least want to see Work Bitch before we negate it. What if it's the thing that gives Mariah her inner drag queen and makes her an aggressive hard ass? Just a thought.

For evgenia-semi related, do you think Eteri's 3 juniors will make the world team, or will one/two get injured/bomb nationals? This will be the first year where quads can start to get normalized in women's FS.
