THE LEADING GROUP OF LADYS TO FOLLOW IN JUST A LITTLE BIT. ON THE ICE RIGHT NOW, 18-YEAR-OLD SIDNE VOGEL, THE JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPION FROM 1995 AND THE WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPION A YEAR AGO.>>Peggy: WHAT MAKES HER SKATING SHE HAS A LOT OF POWER. WHAT REALLY WORKS VERY WELL IS THIS PROGRAM. IT’S BEAUTIFULLY PACKAGED TO VERY NICE MUSIC. THE CHOREOGRAPHY DONE BY KATARINA DONEGREN. SHE IS OPENING WITH THE TRIPLE LUTZ. BACK EDGE TAKEOFF. VERY NICE. DOUBLE TOE. GOOD, SOLID OPENING. AND THIS NEXT JUMP, THE TRIPLE FLIP, SHE FELL ON THIS IN THE SHORT PROGRAM.>>Dick: AND FELAGAIN. ALMOST SEEMS THAT ONE FALL IS OKAY. SHE DOUBLED THAT INSTEAD OF DOING IT TRIPLE LOOP THERE. SHEEA SN INTO THAT SPIN. SHE MOVED FORWARD, GAVE IT A GOOD SPEED TO IT.>>Peggy: I THINK THIS CHOREOGRAPHY REALLYHELPED SOFTEN SIDNEY’S SKATING. IT’S NICE TO SEE HER HOLD THE MOVES A LITTLE LOCKER, FEEL THE MUSIC.>>Dick: I THINK IT WOULD HELP TREMENDOUSLY IF SHE WN’T QUITE SO ROUND SHOULDERED AND HELD HERSELF UP IN A BETTER STYLE. IT WOULD MAKE THESE JUMPS A LITTLE MORE BEAUTIFUL.>>Peggy: TRIPLE SALCHOW.>>Dick:VERY POWERFUL AND VERY STRONG, BUT NOT PRETTY. I GUESS IT’S HARD ENOUGH TO DO IT THAN WORRYING ABOUT WHETHER IT’S A PRETTY JUMP. THAT’S WHAT FIGURE SKATING IS ALL ABOUT. NICE TRIPLE. NICE TRIPLE TOE, DBLE TOE.>>Terry: DICK, IT’S BEEN SAID, AND THINK IT IS TRUE THIS IS THE ONLY SPORT WHERE A MAIN PART OF YOUR OBJECTIVE IS TO NEVER LET THEM SEE YOU SWEAT. AND THAT CAN’T BE EASY.>>Dick: NICE CHANGE-CHANGE SPREAD EAGLE. WE DON’T SEE VERY MANY OF THOSE. NOW AGAIN A LZ. HERE GOES THE STEP BACK. DOUBLE LUTZ.>>Dick: DOUBLE AXEL.>>Peggy: NICE HEIGHT. RY NEAT IN THE AIR. [ APPLAUSE ]>>Dick: FOR SIDNE VOGEL IN NINTH PLACE HEADING INTO THIS FREE SKATE AND TRYING TO MOVE UP. NICE HAND FROM THE CROWD HERE AT THE CORESTATES CENTER. @timothyhh I think it depends on your taste. I for one love cheesy 80s soundtrack music and thought the choreography was good for her. I think that's what Peggy meant — not that it was comparable to a Michelle Kwan, but good for a skater at Sydne's level.

I generally agree. Also, Sydne had not improved as much as expected since winning the junior national title in 95. In fact, Tara Lipinski had come from FAR behind and quickly surpassed her by 96 in every way. So, I think Peggy was doing the best she can to encourage Sydne–by perhaps over-emphasizing that she is a beautiful skater. "Objectively," though, I agree that this program is quite generic and rather unmemorable…

This dress is very similar to the one worn by Nicole Bobek in 1995.
