Meet Steven Bradbury, an Australian Skater. In the 2002 Olympic Winter Games Steven
Bradbury won Gold for Australia for the first
time ever in history in the 1000m final. In a devastating crash in Montreal a
competitors skate sliced through his right
thigh. However, Steven travelled down a long road

recovery time. In 2000, in Sydney, Steven crashed into a
barrier during training and broke his neck. He was told he would never be able to skate
again. But that didn’t stop Steven… In 2002 Steve competed at the Salt Lake City
Winter Olympic Games. His four rivals all collided leaving him to
cross the finish line. The last man standing! Even though he might not have deserved the
Gold for that race, he definitely deserved it
after 12 years of spirit and bravery. The last man standing! He could have given up after the first crash in
Montreal, but he didn’t he showed true
Australian spirit and kept persevering! He has the fighting spirit of the Australian
Digger!
