we’re Eamon and Bec and we’re currently
traveling around Europe and our self converted sprinter van to begin today’s
episode we want you to close your eyes and picture Spain maybe you’ve pictured
yourself drinking sangria on a beautiful beach or perhaps you’re eating paella
before a football match but we bet you didn’t picture this because we certainly
didn’t which is why we’re so excited we got off the beaten track this week to
uncover Spain’s best-kept secret hold up we’re getting a little ahead of
ourselves hello guys and welcome to Zaragosa or as the locals say Sara-gosa we actually came in last night and slept just outside of the city and got up
early a little workout what kind of us we kind of thought that
this city might be just like I work out and stock up kind of City but it looks
very beautiful it’s a beautiful day out so we thought we’d do some exploring Oh
in case you’re wondering we’re parking basically in the city centre this free
gravel parking lot Zaragosa is actually Spain’s fifth largest city
after Madrid Barcelona Seville Valencia what’s that oh my gosh not even like two
minutes into our walk I think we found something turns out this is some kind of palace
welcome to Aljaferia Palace it is a medieval medieval medieval medieval
it’s a medivh mad evil how you say that word it’s a medieval Islamic fortified
palace that was built in the later half of the 11th century I’m not exactly sure
but I think some form of parliament goes on inside here today anyway that’s all
we’re giving you yeah let’s go for you too adios it’s about mid-afternoon and we
haven’t really eaten anything so Bec looked up a quick little spot to
grab some lunch plus would it be like a city tour with Eamon and Bec if we didn’t
stop for food I don’t think so si posible todos vegan? ah okay good… Do our faces show how confused we are I got 20% this server just came back she speaks fluent
English if you caught our last vlog you realize we just learnt the word
cuchara so we had cuchara del dia which is like the spoon dish of the day and
then the regular meal of the day so this one’s more of like a soup it looks
really nice with chickpeas and such and then a mince colors yeah so the food here is nothing fancy
but it’s delicious it kind of feels like being at Grandma’s house
my grandma hasn’t cooked me a meal in a long time it’s what I imagined her food
to taste like you know we didn’t like any of the food hasta luego just an 8 minute walk from
our delicious lunch spot we’ve arrived to either the top site of Zaragoza
although it doesn’t look like it no in the sense of the people oh you think a
top site in a Spanish city would be crawling yes actually not that busy as
we came close to the basilica’s a new stress in your eyes del cielo now that
it’s a little bit french-sounding I think which is like Our Lady of teller
translated aim and I both love it’s super impressive very grand very
impressive and the story goes that on January 2nd of 40 ad the Virgin Mary
appeared here to st. James the Apostle on top of a pillar and apparently she
left that pillar behind and they created a church around that pillar to sort of
monument the occasion and subsequent churches have been built
etc etc creating this entire basilica which is grand and beautiful and worth
the visit you get so many good fats for them babe yeah I was just gonna check
out on this one this is all you baby well I’m sure we could stick around and
explore all day there is a lot more history a lot more museums a lot more
amazing buildings but we are actually heading to the mountains the
world-famous Pyrenees now the class alright and we’ve made it to the side of
the road but side of the road we camp for the evening another shout out to
park for night that’s who we’ve been using for all of our camp spots here in
Europe and hasn’t led us astray yet back in the kitchen this evening which side
back everybody on board so we’re gonna scare the plan I’m curling gonna put the
camera down and we will see you in the morning for a day full of adventure
sleep well good morning everyone Amy and I had such a restful sleep out
here that we actually slept in a little our master plan was to get up and at the
hike before the crowds come but now we’re just gonna have to make make some
new friends today so we’re gonna giddyup giddyup get up and giddyup you having
milk with their coffee are ya now that we’re a little late to the party we’ve
decided no stress it’s just relax have a nice chill
morning so we’re gonna start a little breakfast but barely stays food while we discuss
the way I feel like we never show you exactly
what’s going into these classic breakfasts that we always have but we
make this muesli almonds in here goji berries oats
raisins seeds and I mix that with the coconut milk and then we have a really
nice little seed section so we try and get this in every single day hemp seeds
flax seeds and chia seeds we’re on route to the trailhead it’s about a 15 20
minute drive from where we are it’s 11 o’clock so we’re you know couple hours
behind schedule but we read that it gets busy around 11:00 at the main part which
takes two and a half hours so maybe everyone will be gone by the time we get
there okay I will see you guys at the trailer
you guys you take a smoothly down these bumpy road space all right so it appears that nobody’s
left yet it’s quite the busy Park you love but that’s okay guys you ready to
go yes ma’am I just got to throw all my booties all right throw the – oh I got
socks in here perfect though shaking a little smoke mm-hmm
not too bad four out of ten hilarious when not too bad goes from like Oh put
those in the laundry – I could get another day’s wear out of these and also
I feel like the scale just keeps sliding okay like tennis just keeps getting
further oh gosh okeydoke suit up babe we don’t really
have a game plan but we think this is where the trail starts more important
than a game plan is a food plan I prepped up some peanut butter sandwiches
last night as well as I prepped up some watermelon which you put in the fridge
so when we come back from this five-hour hike Wow look at this these mounds also one more thing about
the van we’ve been parking it intentionally in the Sun because I feel
like ever since we put on the roof rack we’re shading the solar panel a little
bit and we’re not getting prime optimal voltage so parking the Sun makes the van
a little bit hotter but in the long term you get a little more electricity that’s
a win ok I think we’re going this way that the
one doesn’t the time on it doesn’t say no one will to my status buddy there’s
people on the vlog that are saying that our Spanish is so good that they
actually don’t understand this we need to translate into English turn into a
total espanol blog where did you go I think we already told you but the
Pyrenees actually borders Spain and France so we’re running into people and
saying Allah and then they say bonjour back and so I’m just trying to like hear
my languages and greet appropriately what language do you like thinking these
days um to be honest no I know English so we’ve been hiking for about an hour
and a half we haven’t really shown you but the hike was fairly busy chalked
with people now we did see a little turn off towards another hike we thought we’d
explore I didn’t even know if it was another hike to be honest it just looked
like oh there’s some rubble and maybe we could make our way down towards the
waterfall if you’re doing the hike you’ll see a blue railing and that’s
where you turn off and I think so too Daniel sandwich can cascada I’ve already
had one off camera so I guess yeah before I know but should I save it
for the new next John bitch to avoid carrying a lot of water which
gets very heavy on a long hike we actually have this cool pump so you can
actually pump like urine for this and drink it and I’m sure this water is
clean enough you don’t need it but nice little extra precaution doesn’t get fresher than this pump it
well I’m going the wrong way dude this goes in there in Ohio huh yeah okay and on to our regularly scheduled
hike yeah no agua s so yeah no they they don’t understand you can’t be doing that
yeah no means pull this is turned into like Dora the Explorer this might be a pretty big statement but
I think this hike might be the best high covered on my life honestly we’ve had
the privilege of hiking through the Rocky Mountains in Canada the Himalayan
mountains in Nepal and whether it was just that we had no expectation for
today or no Fatah’s delivery is delivering hard and I think it has a lot
to do with just the change-up up scenery it can be really tight trees that
trickle along the river and then it really opens up and you’ve got this
entire kind of border of Yosemite vibes just kicking it all the way around the
the hike it’s awesome Johnny we’ve made it to our final destination caballo
I’m getting in the water definitely going pull plunge on that look about
water oh my gosh I gotta find the tanning spot after at all I chickened
out and opted for the foot only plunge but we’ve got someone who’s taken their I’m gonna wash the alcohol yeah
Oh how do you feel up your swim as the French say Oh I think Trinity whoa
that was a full day experience bud yeah I’m not sure I knew it was a full day
you know what Oh Spain is the first country yeah that
doesn’t underestimate their overestimate there are times when it says two hours
it’s two hours yeah so that weighs about a sixer what time you think it is
you guys 6:45 and I guess 7:10 6:30 6:30 so we were out since 11:30 so only a
seven-hour day I felt longer didn’t it I felt way longer and perhaps the past
aimin for cutting up this India muchas gracias
maybe got my shoes off so badly my shoes are off that is as much as we did
Wow that’s not the comments should we just go sleep where we were last night
easy peasy sounds like you’re very calm well see you there
I think you think there’s a little like oh cool but there’s a lot of people who
don’t like noises like that oh man I can’t believe how lucky we got with the
weather I had seen that there was forecast for rain the second we got in
the van torrential downpour I can’t believe it
we’ve come to the same spot this evening cuz we had a good sleep last night
tacos baby I’m pretty impressed with how long is mic battery loss mmm
like I never charged it I know you said you were charging it the other day I’m
like wait what my off mic on does that sound better it’s gonna look like you
cook babe siren knows we’re also at cocina de
Becka again this evening I’ve whipped up my delicious world-famous
dare I say world-famous talk to me yeah yeah yeah you’re getting a bit of refuge
from super simple just diced onions really small with a bunch of spices like
cumin Cayenne garlic and then I add toasted walnuts chopped up and lentils
and you like mash it together it doesn’t look that amazing but it’s delicious and
then we make like enough for a family of 12 because you can eat it tomorrow I’m
sorry I can’t even tell you guys bye Becky’s been talking about this taco
legette since we started the hype yeah before we started the honey okay well
cheers baby cheers man I love you thank you for spending a day in nature with me
I gonna be okay tea besides yours really enjoyed it okay no you know what it
needs so some lows done it’s pipe great call alright well good bye guys my mouth is
now unfold and we will see you in the next one we hope you enjoyed it please
subscribe make sure you hit WiDi subscribe back you subscribe so you get
a notification when we post it also helps us out yeah it does guys at home
scram what’s the thing I’m trying to get going see you Sunday that’s it just in
case you guys were fooled and were thinking that I actually cooked I’ve got
some proof to show that it didn’t nice wide angle lens I’ll let them just we’ll
just hold it on here it’s not that bad it’s not that good I’m
not gonna keeping it in the pan am I good night good night

You should stick around in Zaragoza until evening where it feels like everybody in the city comes out for evening stroll and tapa crawl (great food that lives up to its tourist slogan of delicious food) around the church area. During the day, the city does feel pretty empty.

Another smash hit! I am loving this trip! I am planning on a trip to Europe and Africa Apr. 2020 and was wondering how you find using a drone over there. I'm familiar with the rules and laws here in Canada and appreciate that they would apply there as well…ie not near airports etc… But are the authorities there concerned about tourists pulling out a drone and flying over a castle/Basilica, around towns etc? Just wondering what your experience has been like on this trip…. Thank you for this adventure.

I would eventually like to see a tutorial on how you film your driving AWAY from the road you left behind…camera placement tricks! Do you have a crew following you, behind?! Or are you looping right back, to grab the equipment ???! YOUR filming is top notch and captivating.

Fantastic landscape, I was in Cola de caballo some year ago but we went all the way to Refugio Goriz. If you will like to make more hikes I will recommend you Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici in Catalunya. Go to Espot (small village) you can park the van there, walk (or take a taxi) to the lake Sant Maurici and from there you can have endless options. If you have the equipment you can camp where you want. Also, you have the option to use the Refugio de Montaña (staff cabins) normally from one journey walk. There is high mountains quote. You need some equipment, weather can change unexpectedly and buy a topographic map. No to many tourists after the big Sant Maurici lake. The landscape is awesome, not to difficult you can walk from one valley to another, many glacier lakes.

I have that same filter and its great. I got wide eyed when you started pumping it backwards saying to myself "OH NO!" lol. also, would not recommend filtering urine with that.. its not a purifier unfortunately. Stay safe out there!

love watching your videos and am embarking on my own van life travels here on Oct. 7th!

Great episode, but I'm with Bec- I cringe & struggle my way through the eating scenes with the gross noises! Wouldn't miss an episode though:)

I love how you guys wouldn’t expect that veiw in Spain but most of Spain is like that, alot of people expect Spain to be boiling hot with beaches everywhere but thats a really small part of Spain, for example where i live theres mountains and rivers EVERYWHERE and its always so green here bc its raining 24/7… MOST of Spain is not how u would it expect it to be, where u guys went isn’t very rare at all in Spain. But every tourist thinks the same so 🤷🏼‍♀️ ily guys keep up with the amazing work!! ❤️

Spain really is a hidden gem, once you get away from the tourist traps. Our village, Cervera del Maestre is fantastic. The surrounding areas though are at places breathtaking. Enjoy.

Zaragoza City, how beatifully presented by yourselves. The city is very stunning. Your drone camera just catches almost the totality of the city scape. Their Basilicas pinched my heart since I am a Catholic myself.

Got mesmerized by the stunning beauty of their mountains along with their cascading waterfalls. It is so enchanting, I can't go over it. I keep rewinding on that episode. It is like a fairytale backdrop of a prince riding his horse and passing through those mountains. Whew! Well done. Thanks for sharing… 🤩🤩

Had a moment when I heard bonjour! Hahaha, my brain went, “Wait, I thought this was another Spain vlog?!” It’s funny cause I’ve always thought of they Pyrenees as French. That hike was STUNNING! I’m missing the sheep from Scotland and Ireland though…

Wow beside bec. LOL simply beautiful, the speed up walk ground level, and backwards pan-out of the breath taking wideshot of the line of waterfalls in reverse of the walk. A original.
Her another tip on your weekly meat of a few slices & also a few slices of garlic to boot.
Found the best way & it help in 4 ways. Buy your 1 week supplies of meat. You can rotate, chicken, beef, pork, fish over other week. Leave it package and take out your slices for 2-3 days. The next day get out your thick aluminum or cast iron. It's cold retention frig. don't have to work that hard. Then spice & fry the meat with olive oil. Take your slices till day 7
As you buy your next meat buy some sea food as your going to make rice Paella to clean up that pan and few garlic at the bottom. Add 2 cup of rice and get it dirty from the bottom a chop in 4 & thin slices potato and bell pepper in the rice & add 2 cup water & spice and the slices meat& seal food cover. Best easy Paella ever. Don't soggy the rice & it's so tasty
Great way to deal with a few slices of meat daily. Needed for muscle.
