come on everybody from Big Bear getting ready to take my snowshoes out on a trial run I just got some snowshoes for Christmas and it's nice and snowy here we found a trail that we can go on and I guess it's used for cross-country skiing as well and we're gonna check it out Carole come say hello this is my friend Carole she's gonna be my partner today and we brought some snacks and some water new shoes yeah do it we're gonna head out on this trail right in front of us we're really excited come along with us for the first time so we're figuring these things out Carole was able to borrow some snowshoes from one of our local ski instructor friends here so she's just trying these for the very first time and see how this goes off we go Nerra mine oops here we go Oh there was nothing we're expecting a snowstorm this afternoon or this evening they said possibly as early as noon which it's about probably 11 a.m. right now and looking a little kind of ominous and mixes 7 clouds right now and it's supposed to be snowing quite a bit this evening it's New Year's Eve so that sounds like crunching on the snow so I think this seems like a awesome way to close out the year it's been a very adventurous here with hiking and backpacking and I can't think of a better way to close it out gonna be ending here winter hiking in the snow pretty awesome little baby tree growing next to this big mama tree it's beautiful out here and so quiet [Applause] wait stop in here for a little break e and I have a little vegan pure vegan protein bar yum yum what ever than you would for a break like here a little harder than we thought peanut butter gin PB&J I love this new growth out here it's pretty little trees it looks like it's just ready for some ornaments Suns peeking out it definitely feels good hiking on the snow a mystery Carol just pointed out this tree splits off that's pretty cool 2017 [Applause] some clouds some lovely forest trees found of dirt underneath my feet crunching has been replaced with smell a phonograph I was a kid close just this one I deserve a little rain here and I can choose some other snowshoers it's a beautiful day I'm filming you guys hope you don't mind okay it goes to the end of what was a New York Grand Canyon yeah so you parked up and they came down okay so you got to go right from your cabin awesome what a beautiful day yeah that's too they take a big hat off because we're sweating and then I am so hot right now you look great I love your pants let the snow shoes they are the Atlas brand and I will put a link to below for these and makes it much more easy to check around and snap good grip non-slip and I think these are gonna work out wonderfully so the road we've been on has been a fire ed that's why it was quite wide and now we turned off I think we're just on the trail but this is where we saw a couple that was snow shoeing come from so we're gonna check on this for a little bit but it's definitely a steeper terrain so probably what good to see afar being that this is our first snow shoeing adventure but Wow how beautiful is this gorgeous Wow it's rock here to picture for sure well guys this looks like a beautiful spot to in this little Trek we're gonna head back down now so I'm just gonna go back the way we came so there won't be much different to show you but wow this is fun super good workout I'm stoked on the snowshoes you're looking forward to more adventures with these maybe up in the Sierras next so we'll see you next time thanks for coming along

I consider myself lucky I only live minutes away from being able to Snowshoe hike backpack it's wonderful I have a suggestion it looks like you overdressed for the occasion you need to use the three layers. because you heat up so fast you can add or take away when needed

Happy you got your new snow shoes! Nice video…Wait until you get into 4-6 feet of snow and then see how nice those things work. Like walking on top of a cloud. Happy New Year!

Great video Catherine, we don't get much snow here in East Tennessee and I have never tried snowshoes, it looks like a work-out.

I noticed @ 04:28 you took a break for some P&J time but it is not official unless you do this while you consume the P&J.

Nice to see you out and enjoying the fresh cool air. My kind of weather. Thanks for sharing.
What I am about to say is in no way meant to be taken in a mean way.
I understand you are trying out snowshoes just to learn what they are all about. I hike in that kind of snow all the time and I never use snowshoes but I see groups of amateurs hikers all with snowshoes that they just purchased or rented. I am sure by the end of the day those snowshoes go into the garage never to be used again. like my kayak.
I, myself, have never used them because I am too cheap to spend my money on them and second, I am way too lazy to use them. The snow that you are in is too shallow and compacted to warrant the work snowshoes require to travel. Notice this Russian https://youtu.be/XpemyxnZJr4. Now that is snowshoe country but even he prefers to use skies because they require less effort when traveling. Snowshoes have their place but that place is not where I want to be. Your trails looked perfect for a day hike.
