February in Canada this time of year that means snow the freezing temperatures and snow February in Canada also means that without a fat bike I am getting no time on two wheels but I keep hearing about something crazy going on in the Rockies that might fix my winter blues so I headed on out to Sunshine Village ski resort in Banff Alberta to go and check it out you may not have known this but Canadians like their reduce ports it was kind of busy so what was it that had me drive for hours on end deep into the Rockies on a cold Sunday morning the tangent ski bike a purpose-built dual suspension bike with skis instead this is rick rick is a lifelong stand by cur kind enough to show me how to use one of these things so off we went but I swear every one to two minutes we will stop by people looking to get photos with these newfangled contraptions but I just wanted to get on the hill depressions oh I was just saying it's like considering the bike I've just been riding it sure is weird that might my feet are that close to the front of the bike on the pole I'm more like we picked up speed really really quickly on this bike and then we picked up even more speed but the bike actually felt really stable at high speeds which kind of makes sense because it's a big ski out in front and behind you so it's not like you're gonna go flipping over bars see you can't do that first day on a snowboard no with the catch on edge and you were drifting you felt the bike drifting yeah perfect that's the now it's just refinement from this point on Rick was a really great teacher and he spent most of the day showing the different lines and how to maneuver the bike just right to have maximum fun get our speed up it take you out of a decent speed through the trails in the trees okay like there's a little treat or a bone marrow out come in all right [Applause] hi [Applause] seriously look how fun this thing is [Applause] there's no the learning curve he isn't like oh crap I'm doing this wrong or I'm about to crash it's actually finding how far the bike can go and so far like there's no there's no limit to like the grip and like staying on your edge on this crazy like steep side yeah you can just have a seat and just yeah [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] all right time to go ingest thanks dad all right back this sorry camera take down you got to wait what oh just out for cruise just a light stroll Oh sitting is weird I got a standing that's crazy whoa whoa you can't see it but my back-end is drifting like crazy and it's it's supposed to I feel like Aaron Gwin on every second race he goes to just the rear tire blown out this is a way better than snowboarding in my opinion haha into the abyss oh it's not the best day for riding and filming but it's still a rad day because I want a bike and I got lifted up a mountain I'm just sitting just cruising no biggie and I can't see anything apparently it's about to drop okay here we go I know you guys can't tell anything and actually neither can i but I can see people in the distance and I should follow the Redwings Jersey that was bound to happen okay so I spent the rest of my day just kind of stepping things up and going a bit from little drops to bigger drops – trying not to seriously injure small children so the next few clips were filmed with a GoPro Hero 5 instead of GoPro Hero 4 so the audio is going to be pretty sucky so sorry about that and this is the new bike I haven't ridden this one yet and apparently it's supposed to be way drifty earth whoa that's all of speed faster too Oh [Applause] oh that's fun yeah that's fine can we all just have a look for a second how freakin fun this is that will not be the last time that I ever ride a bike that's for sure [Applause] that was such a good day I really didn't know what to expect going into this because I mean I don't I'm honestly like I have a snowboard I've snowboarded for most of my life but I've never really done winter sports all that much and so it's always pretty different for me and I mean being on that bike that was like a whole different experience it was really cool I think because I had handlebars that I was hanging on to and I'm able to steer and stuff it really translated over pretty well but other than that it's it's pretty different in a really like cool fun way the handling was really cool I was able to pick it up pretty quickly I highside it a couple of times but that's because I was like really reefing it if anybody's ever interested in doing any of this stuff contact rick from pieced bikes it's pis t e like i could tell immediately that he's 100% in this to grow the sport that he really loves and he was saying he doesn't ski he doesn't snowboard he just ski bikes so pretty cool to hang out with him and dave big thanks to you for helping me on the camera for some pretty sick shots there and I'm gonna go and drive home now I was up at 4 a.m. and now I'm gonna drive back home another probably five hours ish back to my place so I better get going but until then cheers guys have a good one

I love ski bikeing. On Saturday it's my 14th day on my bike. It's freaking awesome in the powder, off the trails and in the woods. I can't wait to next season. This is probably more fun that downhill MTB.

I've ridden these but feel like having my feet in a front/back position more like they would be on pedals would be more natural… I always felt like my feet were too close together and I just didn't have the leverage/control I was used to coming from BMX and MTB.

Looks so rad but it would be total crap here in Nova Scotia on a short run with tons of ice patches on the hill. I so want to try it out 😁

As a skier I would not want to be hit with one of these on the ski hill, wait until the accidents start happening. If I get hit with one of these ski bikes I’ll sue. These ski bikes should only be in the park side of the mountain.

i feel like i would want the pedals on the cranks still, it'd feel more natural i reckon.
