Yeah, I'm too scared to skate on lakes so I'll stick to indoor rinks.

My entire childhood with my . I used to do that every winter in Iceland ,we would actually sometimes do it to go to school and i did it every weekened with my 7 dogs , but i was constantly worried they would get too cold so i always brought blankets they could rest on every 10 minutes to avoid frost bites . and my grand mother even knitted them little socks which my grand father completely coated with rubber from old bike inner tubes to make them waterproof and give a better grip on ice . These are some of my best and fondest memories .

As a kid I loved the first few skates every year when the ice was clear. It had to freeze without any snow occurring during the process.
One thing to be very careful off was any area where beaver or muskrats lived as they can have runs where they keep the ice from forming as quickly. A sure fire way to take an unwanted swim.
