– Do a couple of pushes, small pushes. Back foot on. Yeah! Nice. You’re riding. ‘kay, straighten out that, yeah. Oh. No way this is your
first day on a skateboard. Every last Sunday of the month we come to Town Park from 10am to 1pm. First hour 10 to 11 we do lessons for anyone, all abilities, all genders. Yes, I love that you
straightened your foot out again. Can you give me a low five
while you’re here today. Wooo! So the reason why we put
female identified folks at the epicenter of our work is that there’s not a lot of places in this world that we do that. We get a lot of people that have never set foot in a skate park And lot of times it can
be super intimidating just to get on a skateboard let alone the culture that already exists at a lot of skate parks
can be really scary, can feel unsafe, can feel unwelcoming. So we wanna really create
a community and a culture that’s the exactly opposite of that. Yeah. Nice job. And what’s helpful is if you’re in front, then she can lean forward towards you. – Traditionally, skateboarding
is, you know, male. And that’s the bulk of what we see. So it’s always good to
find events for Alondra ’cause she needs to see that. She needs to see girls do things that aren’t just princesses and ballet. Although, she does ballet. And she likes princesses. – Yes she does. But she also has knee pads, right? So that’s the world is now. – Okay legs, get you
other arm out, strong. There we go, good job. Bye. No, wait. – [Ashley] The cool
thing about skateboarding is there’s no right or wrong. The only skaters you often see in media are the ones that are
jumping down something insane or doing something crazy. You don’t often see the beginner, right? But everyone had to start there, so. What’s powerful about skateboarding is that you have to really
normalize fear and failure. And we see that everywhere
else in our life. – [Woman] It’s okay to fall. Awesome. (upbeat music)

Skateboarding has always been neutral it's always been for everyone. I grew up seeing boys and girls alike skateboarding together plus snowboarding skiing surfing rollerblading roller skating skydiving rock climbing Etc all the time since the 80s. Have been neutral I don't understand where they got the idea that skateboarding was only for men I've never witnessed this first hand…🤔😕
The only thing intimidating about skating is falling😁
I tried skateboarding for a short time I remember receiving support from both male and female friends . The experience was fun but in the end it wasn't my thing. So I went out and found things I like better. Like horseback riding.
