Belotti SPA produces and designs 5-axis numerical control machining centers for the automotive and aerospace sectors. This year Belotti has started a very important project that is technologically innovative and we have faced it by selecting KUKA as a partner to supply industrial robot arms. This project, which has taken the name of “Belotti Integrale”,
is an innovative project because it represents a collaboration between 3 companies, our company with a history of 5-axis cartesian machining centers, a company like KUKA, manufacturer of robot arms and a company like Siemens for CNC. Together we developed this new technology,
with the Siemens control that commands and operates the KUKA and Belotti industrial robots
that manages all this new cell, this new ready solution, integrating loaders and pallets with the KUKA robot and the Siemens system. The challenge we have taken up is precisely that of inserting this machine into an existing system, so we had to interface with the existing machines, then allow the individual pallets to be passed along, and have the entire thing work within the existing structure of a building. As far as the choice of KUKA and Siemens is concerned, it was born from the fact that the customer directly requested the use of a system that could be controlled with the traditional cartesian system and still exploit all the benefits from the robots’ flexibility. Siemens and KUKA have given us the possibility to have this communication interface and therefore we have been able to exploit the ease of understanding of the robot language
through traditional ISO control, in order to execute the various cycles and the various processes required. Basically, Robot 1, which is a KUKA KR 270, is the robot that is used for machining. It is a robot that mounts an electrospindle,
and performs a classic milling, but the difference is that it is controlled
in ISO language through the Siemens CNC. The robot above the cell, Robot 2, manages tool storage and qualification. We have three warehouses, a lift warehouse that takes the tools up and down to the floor where the operators are, a warehouse for fast exchange, which is what is used
to power the tool changer of the robot below as a storage warehouse for the most unused tools. The robot is fully integrated and controlled by the Siemens CNC. The CNC from Siemens’ tool management retrieves
information about the tools, where they are and so on, the robot processes and analyzes them, so that it understands
where to move the most frequently used tools and the worn tools and everything is done with the robot
acting as an exchange positioner. My personal ambition for Belotti in the coming years is to be able to keep the company extremely competitive, with cutting-edge products, and an increasingly efficient after-sales service, while providing a work environment that is rewarding for employees who can experience
both professional and personal growth.

    What kind of milling accuracy can be expected with this setup? Is it roughly +-1mm like with the kr30 ha my lab uses, or is it even better?
