What I usually do when I thread a needle is I pinch the end of the thread between my fingers while my fingers are pointing upwards. Only the very end of the thread should be showing, then you push the needle onto the thread between your fingers so that it captures the thread while both the needle and the thread are between your fingers. It's easier to demonstrate than to explain, but my grandma who was a seamstress for several decades until she retired always did it that way

Funny cause it's true! My Fashion teacher used to lie the thread across the top of her palm and rub the eye of the needle across it a few times and literally by magic it would thread! I've never been able to replicate that trick though..

Apparently it helps to wet the back of the needle (as well as the thread?) As the thread is attracted to water. I haven't tested it tho

I can't for the life of me use the automatic needle threader on my sewing machine… it take me 3 tries every time at least to get that little hook to catch the thread, and then it never pulls the end all the way through! Better to not waste my time and just do it by hand! LOL

I learned from a costume designer to always fold the thread over double and use the folded end to thread it into the needle. The hand stitching is double strength this way and 100x easier to thread through the needle anyway
