I was really throwing away my career that I worked so hard all my life for and I lost focus of what was important to me what I loved [Music] you want to already have that in your mind like I’m gonna follow through all the way catch my board and I’m gonna take it to the ground all the way [Music] growing up in Chicago there was a lot of crime you know a lot of gangs and drive-bys and it was pretty sketchy you know it was stuff growing up so I got into skateboarding and instantly fell in love skateboarding really got me away from all the chaos and stuff in my community it gave me like a therapeutic feeling every time I stepped on the board I felt like I was free being out here eating a ton that just kind of sparked off this whole career so definitely a life-changing experience so a few friends in Long Beach California called me one day and they’re like hey mean if you want to come we have space you could just live the California life so I just packed the backpack and flew to LA and you know it’s been about like 10 years when I was young I just kind of skated all the time I didn’t really party much and then I was Perl and I started making more money partying just started slowly gaining up the hangovers went from a day to like four days I ended up not skating as much anymore arguing with so he’s you know like getting a trick takes forever it’s hard to get a trick drinking a 12-pack was easy I never really realized how bad I was because you can never see yourself like falling but I swear there was a grace period like year maybe a year and a half where I could stay up for three days in a row jump in the van and get a trick fully three days intoxicated and that worked for like a year maybe but then after that year had really caught up I was falling into this dark hole and what happened was I was skating one day and I wasn’t at my optimal level and I ended up injuring myself and tearing my ACL when I had my injury and my ACL tour I started realizing like what am I doing with my life I’m throwing my life away and something snapped in my head was just time to clean up my act I had to make myself uncomfortable for the next few months and just be sober I actually had to change my whole life like 180 like all the friends that I had at the time all the places and things I would do I had to switch that all up the main goal that kept me strong through this was my love for skateboarding because I had to rehab my knee I started getting into fitness I started getting into health and wellness every day it just kind of got better and better and I picked up a new thing that I wanted to do you know like my focus was stronger than ever I was like how can I skate forever how can I just be mobile and strong forever now after my injury and learning so much about the body in the mind and getting into fitness and health I approached skateboarding differently it’s just more about the recovery zone that my like full potential every day skateboarding was my first love in life it set me up in the beginning it kind of got away from me in the middle of my life now I’m back [Music]

Neen rips. Chip Wilson sucks and his company makes comfortable and ugly clothes that cost way too much money. Skateboarding doesn't need Lululemon.

Really inspiring Neen! In the movie The Razors Edge the monk says to Larry that the path to enlightenment is like walking on the edge of a razor. I’m glad you found the keener side of that blade. I’m 55 and still skating and was also inspired by your commitment to your health, which is something I think a lot about these days. Thanks for taking the time to make the vids!

I got sober in September of 2013 from booze. When Neen talks about getting rid of all the friends that you party with and do a 180-degree turn. It's hard but you gotta do it. It's not easy Neen is a great teacher and role model.

Thank you Neen! I gained so much weight letting go. I still skate but it ain’t the same. It’s more of a challenge. This is the hype I needed to get my body mind and soul back on the grind to do what I have a passion for in my life. Thanks Homie

I mean learning the body and mind is nice and all but you can’t be that connected when you eating slaughtered dead animal flesh. I had a similar journey and it’s brought me to a plant based lifestyle. I couldn’t claim being clean and connected when I haven’t faced the food i was eating 3 times a day.

Honest opinion, lululemon makes some of the best functional athletic wear for men and women.
I wear their shorts for skateboarding, they look and feel great and no one can tell what brand they are so I don’t get any judgy looks ever.
Truth is, you have to try their clothes to understand how above everyone else they are.
When you’re grown enough to not care about the cool factor of a brand when choosing clothes, you’ll get it.
