all right lads and lasses welcome back to the second video first of all I just want to thank absolutely everyone who watched the video and even those in particular you gave me some feedback some brilliant advice there so I'm definitely hanging every little bit of that into consideration because of you guys well I think we're going to do this week is we're going to do mastering the basics of web work that way if I ever do like a big heart rate like a whirlybird or Rayleigh or a back row I can always refer back to the progressive edge or whatever it might be because the basis are key because if you learn the basics the hard stuff becomes so much easier all right first things first I reckon we go for the surface 180 some people like to do in the middle of the lake when I did this it was calm day so I said screw it let's go inside the way so I cut out on a nice heel side edge there's a couple key things here number one is keep the handle at your hips because that's what your center of gravity is number two keep your head up keeping the weight on your heels is pretty important because you don't want to get in our face but trust me they're nasty then the next thing is you want to pull it to the back hip and slowly transferring the board across now as you land it's very important to just kind of look at the far shore because if you kind of look into the boat you'll struggle to get past that last maybe ninety degrees right as I'm cutting out I'm already slowly transferring the weight to my heels then pulling my handle to my right hip now as I land watching my head is up and looking to the far shore already so a lot of people sent me a message saying David because you could show us like what happens if I do something wrong so maybe I could relate to it if it's the same thing that's happening to me so I went and I talked on for the team to show what happens when you look down okay so when you look down you go down and oh I went down Gurunath ii crush i want to show you is when you bring your arms up so when you're taking away from that center of gravity so watch how i lift my arms up in this video and as I left my bystander lose control and then bind I'm into the way have you ever heard someone talk about progressive edge I mean like what is this guy talking about so I'm good teach you the progressive edge because it's the most important thing you will ever learn in wakeboarding other than hold it onto the rope it's a very simple complex concept that actually comes from physics so I'm just going to show you that way no all right so you the white border on this bottle of water and you've been told this way where's the bottle of water at its fastest right there right about here that's when it's at its biggest point which is exactly where you meet the way it's at its weakest point here and its strongest point here and that's what we call the progressive edge so you're slowly building the edge stronger and stronger and that's going to make you pop bigger I'm standing outside the wake and then I'm completely flat then I slowly burn my edge big wedge been wedge and then when I get to the top of the way that's when I like my strongest point next question how do I incorporate the progressive edge into my job so fair way to wake the progressive Ange like I said is the most key thing so if you use that progressive edge and you get to the top of the week then you're at your strongest edge so on the pendulum effect you're going at the fastest point you combine that with a standing up tall you'll make it wake to a guaranteed 100% of the time I can promise you that from there all there is to it is landing with your head up your knees bent and just running away like a boss that same concept actually applies to toast our jumps hillside jumps any inverts watch this toe side wait week I'm building my edge stronger and stronger and stronger there about my fastest point now that's the pendulum effect and I stand tall then when I'm in the air I spot my landing my bad my knees keep the head off and right away however I do want to show you what happens if you come off your edge so on the tail side we call the window winders wine down of wining the windows so if you come into the wake and you slightly ever so slightly come off your edge you're actually going to end up get a kickback and naturally you're going to wine there the window so you can see from that last job that I'm just coming off the edge ever so slightly but it's more enough to kind of just give me that unbalanced feeling I really hope this video made you a master of the basics of a win and if it did please I would love to see the finished product so please tag me in a video on Instagram or on Twitter or whatever that would be awesome actually alright so someone sent me a snapchat the other day and they said Dave I just landed a tantrum and it was the tantrum from the video so for me that was freaking sick to see that so please guys do that by all means send me a snapshot or or tied me in a video ever overdue love to see you guys learn whatever it is that you really reckon on especially if my video helped you get there so let's do it guys come on if you do pulls off the videos please like share subscribe comment even your thoughts I'd love to know how I can help improve the next one and happy right there one

Hey. I’m a complete newcomer at wakeboarding and I’ve been through something like 5 sessions. I’m starting to enhance, like having fun with kickers, but I’d like to share something. I had two crashes this morning like the first one you had when you looked down. I don’t really know whether my ribs are cracked or if it just a muscle injury, but goddammit that still hurts like hell when I breathe in. Do you have any recommendation to avoid such injuries when falling like that? I’ll go for the prevention way not looking down, but it might happen again I guess. I have a video of mine with the crash footage (here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZQHthYkI8Y&t=58s ) if anyone would like to comment. Anyway, thank you for channel, it’s super fun and I’m learning through it (and pretty quickly when on the water thanks to you)!

With the progressive edge do you hold the edge through the wake or do you flatten it a bit so more board hits the wake?

so whats the key differences between this and snowboarding. like the technique is more like surfing or more like snow boarding. I do both but never wake boarding. Too me it looks like skim boarding and snowboarding mix right?

Started wakeboarding years ago I wish your videos were around then, especially for the bankroll to one wake, nobody ever suggested the boat driver shoul drop the power once the riders in the air inverted .. I’m 52 now but still fancy learning bankrolls and tantrums, do you run courses in Ireland in the summer

Thank you, David for getting deep into the basics of wakeboarding. Please, keep the good work!
I actually watched a lot your tutorial vids this season, especially the ones made at cable parks. These all helped me a lot in my learning curve. I put together a small compilation at the end of my season to show how good my progression went.
So if anyone of your viewers wonders how many training days you need to manage your first obstacles, this is where progression track is after hitting big and small cable parks 40 times:

I love the videos. I'm almost 50 years old and started watersports at an early age. Learned to wakeboard more than 25 years ago but never really learned tricks. didn't ride much then but now I'm interested in learning some simple tricks and eventually a tantrum. Thanks for all the tips.

Cheers! Thanks for the bottle pendulum example and for your How to's! Really appreciate them! Amazing how I screw-up the progressive edge when such a simple concept, yet feels so technical when thinking about doing a trick. Def need to keep thinking UP first then trick. 360 is my nemesis! I just watched that video of yours too. I'll be sac'n up to hold the handle longer… I tend to wuss out and start to spin on the way up! HA.

great video! I found holding my edge too long threw me into a partial invert, I blew out my back riding ankle 2 years in a row because of this… and yet you make it look so easy!

    Hi david,

I am improving my wake to wake jump, I am just a couple of feet of reaching the other wake.
My question is, when you meet the wake and pop you need to "flatten" the board, comming out of your edge for the board not to cut the wake, or countinue with your strong edge right up to the "pinacle" of the wake? Tnks very much !
    Your channel is awesome !!!

David how long did it take for you to learn the basics? because when i first stand on a wakeboard i didn't fell (i was directly standing up on the board) except when i tried to move around i became shaky and than i fell :p pulling on the cord i think

How do you make it out to the flats? I can do wake to wake and get barely out into the flats but it takes so much effort. I can do a backroll, tantrum, and 360s.
