MLB TWINS FALL TO THE MARINERS 6-4. FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE 2009 SEASON, LAKELAND PUBLIC TV WILL NOT BE TELEVISING BSU MEN’S HOCKEY HOME GAMES. CEO BILL SANFORD AND BSU ATHLETIC DIRECTOR TRACY DILL HAVE MET SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS BUT SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL TERMS, INCLUDING A REQUIREMENT OF A SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS FEE PAYMENT WERE PROPOSED BY BSU AND A NEW AGREEMENT COULD NOT BE REACHED. DILL CITED CONCERNS THAT BROADCASTS BY LPTV WERE CAUSING SIGNIFICANT REDUCTIONS IN TICKET REVENUE AND ATTENDANCE AT HOME GAMES. SANFORD SAID IN A STATEMENT WHILE I’M CERTAINLY DISAPPOINTED, I RESPECT BSU’S DECISION AND WISH THEM THE BEST GOING FORWARD. THERE JUST AREN’T ENOUGH BUSINESS SPONSORS OR INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTORS TO SUPPORT THE COST OF TELEVISING THE GAMES WITH SUBSTANTIAL NEW EXPENSES.
