There is a potential to take
a good photograph anywhere. If you find a good story behind it. Shooting on my own doorstep
is something that requires a little bit of changing my own mind-set. So I decided to challenge myself and to see what I can tell about my town in four shots. Most of my photography is about life: catching life as it goes, moments which are very spontaneous. So speed is very important. Things are happening
around you so quickly that everything is changing so quickly so that you really react
to what is happening. For me such a thing is the happiness and joy of street photography. Warsaw is abundant with milk bars. And this is the relic of
communism which never vanished. It’s a visually interesting place and also sociologically
interesting place for me. The milk bar is the situation when you don’t want to be seen. Having a smaller camera that doesn’t catch the attention so much, helps. The M6 mark II allows me
to blend into the crowd. The interesting part for
me is there is definitely a story about the women
who are working there, who have been working
there for tens of years. When I’m shooting action
I’m looking at it first then trying to find a way to do it. What I can control is to
control myself and my gear. With the Hellcats it is quite a hard situation for the camera. It is dark, they are moving fast and the focus has to be precise. Then the autofocus and the zone system really chooses the places
where it can focus easily. What excites me is that it works. The city is so versatile, there are so many different things to it. To shoot a picture of my
own city in four shots I would definitely want
to include the river. There are so many young people and so many people enjoying
being by the river. Video is a very important
story telling tool. I like video a lot and I do video a lot. 4K gives you better options so if you’re, for example, delivering in
HD you can zoom in the image and choose the part of the image you like without losing the quality. It is a pleasure for me to be able to do the slow motion video. In this situation it shows how hard they are trying to get the ball. It really conveys the story much better. I think I have learnt to
make pictures out of smaller, less important subjects. It’s about really digging into a subject and then it is really rewarding.
