all right guys so I'm going to give you some of my top tips if you're a beginner stepping onto the ice for one of the first times so number one thing you want to make sure when you're stepping onto the ice for the first time is that you use these boards and these barrier to help you they're your stabilizer so when you step your foot down make sure you step it nice and close to that barrier here you don't wanna be stepping too far weeks if you start stepping like you'd be walking your foots going to glide it's going to go shoot off so make sure you hold on to the barrier feet nice and closed second foot down underneath you still hold on to the barrier until you get used to the idea of how that ice field underneath your feet don't do this and put too much weight on the boards you don't be leaning over like this otherwise your feet are going to slip out from you I know it's really easy to like lean as much as possible because this is your lifeline but try and take some of the weight off those those boards you want to have your weight mostly on your feet and that's just here to help you stabilize step number three is quite a big step but once you start feeling comfortable taking a step you want to maybe start hovering that hand above the barrier take away some of that dependency there from the barrier so make sure that you're keeping your feet underneath you your knees slightly bent and your arms out for balance so you can always still have that barrier there if you need it if you get in any trouble but try and take some more dependency or efnet barrier and even when you start getting a little more confident moving away from the barrier step number four this is how you shouldn't stop now I'm going to teach you how to stop properly so how should you stop we've got a couple of ways I'm going to teach you one of the easiest ones which we call the T stop easiest for beginners once you've got some speed up you're going to take either foot turn out and drag it behind you you want to keep it quite close to the skate a spin on the icy you don't want to have it too far back here you want to make sure it's nice and close and it's going to bring you to a nice easy gentle stop so unfortunately sometimes you might find yourself in this position you've fallen over it happens the skiing happens all the time you're not the only one to do it so don't worry so now I'm going to teach you how to get up safely so I guess the biggest thing which mostly worried about when I skating is people running over your fingers so you know we can stop any of it happening by never putting your hands on the ice you don't know who's going to be skating past you you want to keep those hands off the ice first step we're going to do is to get from if we're on if we're on our backsides here we're going to get up on to our knees first okay so here we are until our knees up the first step next step getting from to knee onto one knee now you've got this one blade on the ice and it's going to be a base of support both hands on that leg using that leg strength it's going to push you straight up keep it nice and stable hey guys hope you enjoyed my top 5 tips for beginners video if you liked it give us a like or also subscribe to our YouTube channel or for much much more information check out the link in our description which would take you to our website for everything you need to know about ice skating

I just went ice skating for the first time yesterday and these tips do help. I recommend holding the bars for support. It was really hard but if you decide to move away from the walls I recommend holding hands of your partner. It helps a lot .

When you was getting up, I tried that and my leg went backwards, so I put my skate to the side, and it worked for me haha, I knew it would happen 😂🤦🏽‍♂️

A T stop isn’t really easy for beginners (balance on one foot + use outside edge of other foot the stop), I’d say try the pizza point first

I went ice skating today and it was utterly horrible. I couldn't balance at all. I give up. I don't think I'm going outside again. Each time, I fall on the same area, my butt and elbow. Nearly fucking shattered it. And my posture is jacked up too. thanks for nothing my peer pressuring uncle.

Hopefully your tips are useful in my next attempt at ice skating. Didn't think it be hard on my first try, watching it looks fun bit doing it yourself can be hard.

I skated yesterday for the first time in 50 years – and I think the first thing to cover should be padding, protective headgear and knowing where the nearest Walgreens is – they carry several kinds of heating pads! When you take your first fall at an ice rink, you won't believe that anything could possibly be that hard. DAMN my shoulder hurts ~~~

Extremely helpful. I'm 34 and I'm planning on learning how to ice skate. I've tried a bit of inline skating but never ice skating. I've always wanted to skate and maybe learn hockey. Grew up playing football, baseball and street basketball. I really wish I could have traded my football gear in for hockey gear growing up. Oh well never too late to learn.

That's not how you get up from the ice!!

Sit on your butt, put both hands on the ice left and right, push yourself up and simultaneously pull both your skates underneath you. Then almost all at once lift your hands from the ice, push yourself up from the ice with your legs and 3 turn or spin yourself into a final backwards glide.
