Which is my best attempt to say in German today we’re going ice skating! So just a really quick introduction I forgot to mention that I went ice skating with Valentin and uh and we were all very excited and it was very busy there so I did not mention that when we were actually there and also it is a little bit loud in the video so I did caption the whole video if you click the captions you’ll be able to find some in English And also I have an Instagram now! so you can find me at SameraAbroad on Instagram So I will be updating that with some cool photos of Vienna and just things going on So without further ado We’re going to check out the huge ice skating rink that is in Vienna’s city center so Enjoy! *music* So we just jumped off the Tram right outside of Rathausplatz which is City Hall, which has the ice skating rink and across the street from it is the Burgtheater so we’re just going to head over to the Rathausplatz for some ice skating *music* So we actually bought our tickets online already so we can just use these machines to grab our tickets quickly and it also included the the skate shoe rentals Okay so we have our tickets for the park and our skates and we’re going to pick them up here (In german she’s talking about our skate size) Val: I guess we got to find some seats Sam: So that’s the entrance over there and this place is so big so lets just grab some seats here *music* So it’s been like, I think, 2 to 3 years since i’ve gone ice skating and how long has it been since you’ve gone ice skating? Val: Like 20 Last time I went skating was in High School Sam: Ok, so it is kind of a long time ago Val: It might actually be 20 years So this could be very interesting but, so it’s kind of like sunset time right now and i’m really excited because um they have amazing lights here you can kind of see some of them this skating rink is huge it’s actually 2 floors which you can see part of the 2nd floor up there and it kind of wraps around the whole front of the Rathausplatz They do also have a ton of lockers here which is – there’s a bunch over there so you can grab locker keys too if you want I’m a little nervous to go skating! I think the first few steps will be interesting *music* Uh, so we did end up buying a locker um which you can do at the same ticket booth it’s like 3 Euros So let’s get on the ice skating rink now finally! It’s starting to get darker and starting to get so pretty! Don’t fall! Oh the – the Zamboni is out now do we have to wait? Val: (German) Wo den? Sam: There Val: We can enter the other side So this I use to get in, right? Val: Yeah Val: You got the scan it like – uh – you know Sam: Alright, here we go I’m gonna go this way See no problem! So there’s like these huge rinks and then there’s also these, like off shoots ramps How would you describe it? Oh, that’s just to the 2nd level *music* So I think this is taking us up, to the 2nd floor This has to be, like, the biggest ice skating rink I think i’ve ever been on especially outside I mean, it’s massive this is the 2nd floor of the ice skating rink and that’s where we just came from and it’s so pretty with all the lights! *music* So there’s an actual DJ here taking requests they have a DJ booth So the DJ takes requests every half hour, for 10 minutes Sam: Okay Val: That’s the deal Sam: That’s the deal Val: Come prepared Sam: Oh, so this is downhill So that connects over here? *music* It’s like how many rinks? Like this is one big one, there’s one other big one over there, we just saw, like two smaller ones Then there’s also, like some little kid skating, practice areas It is seriously, huge it’s so much fun And even though there is, like a ton of people here it’s not like, super super crowded which is nice *music* So you don’t have to go too far from the rink to get some food they have a bunch of like, stands up So you can grab some snacks, some drinks and they have one that’s like, inside and it looks really cozy to warm up with a beer and probably some sausages and stuff *music* Val: Danke Schön Sam: Okay! Val: With chocolate, with vanilla.. Sam: Or, plum? Val: I love plum Sam: Okay, lets do plum Sam: Go ahead Val: Okay, you get all the jam Sam: Did you get any jam? Sam: it’s filled with plum Sam: Plum jam Val: It’s called Powidl Sam: (too busy eating..) Sam: What’s it called? Sam: It’s really good He got some jam! So We’re done skating and we’re heading out but the really nice part is that the tram, is literally right here so we can just kindof hop back on the tram and head out So this was definitely a must-do and – amazing Like I am, so, like surprised how big this thing is And it’s open every day of the week, right? Val: Yeah Sam: Every day of the week Val: I think from 10 to 10 Sam: 10 to 10 It’s amazing that it’s right in the city it’s right on the Ringstrasse So it’s here from February to March, I believe um And it seems to be getting bigger every year which is amazing What’s also really amazing, is that this rink is great for everybody If you’re learning how to skate, or if you have kids or if you’re a really good skater there’s kind of like, different places you can go skate Like the upstairs disco ball area was a lot of good skaters that knew how to like, “skate dance” And then there was, like the bigger rinks Or the little winding areas that you can kind of – just like you know, just skate casually with your friends, and there’s a little bit of something for everybody here or you can just come here take some photos, and go enjoy some really awesome food – so Our train is arriving so – uh So, we’re heading out Bye!
