it’s January it’s cold there’s snow everywhere so what do you do you go ice lake drifting my mark to is now back on the street registered ready to hit the track but it has nobody kit stock turbo it needs a lot of work like a lot of work anyway all you need to go snow drifting is an LSD and a set of snow tires which this car has as of 4:00 p.m. yesterday of course it has a clutch type LSD in the back so that’s fine but to drive on this track you need to have studless winter tires now this is the part of the video where all the Norwegian people the Finnish people the Swedish people go oh you need studded tires you cut unfortunately we can’t use studded tires here and studded tires are actually illegal to drive on the street within Japan they’re Michelin X ice full set they’re okay for being secondhand and I put them on these like the worst drift wheels I have because all my good drift wheels Seventeen’s are up at every sue in the back of the skyline so I was a bit unfortunate but in anyway yeah I just asked them spiked tires have been outlawed for about 20 years in Japan so I guess that’s why the rubber these days on studless tires are so good and as you can see ice I don’t know I think it is but it seems to be thick enough to hold up a car [Music] [Applause] [Music] one good thing about this car is it currently has the lock kit installed on it so I have super amounts of lock if it’ll stop you from spitting out too much I don’t know how much fuel I have because see the fuel gauge is broken but it doesn’t read the fuel gauge wires on the fuel tank are really easily damaged when you put stuff in the boot and that’s what happened to me so I need to repair that all those I don’t know how much fuel I have I’m pretty sure I’m okay though whoa it’s really slick I am not fast enough to go in that and I’m driving a turbo might as well hear it oh geez we good no I’m all over the place come on sit there yeah hey yeah I gotta put some studs on him yeah I was gonna I’ve got someone put him on yet yeah [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh uh I’ve got some studded boot things in Mike in the car I should probably put him on because this is just ice even your slide even your sliding around with this our farmer boots okay it’s Charles this is awesome you have time to look back don’t hear me I’ll get enough oh there was so much fun and there you got someone spray out I got off just in time alright since these boots are just a regular rain boots and like they don’t have studs in the bottom I want to see if I can use these ice band I don’t know if they’re gonna work or not but it’d be better than cracking my head open out on the ice [Music] oh it works Hey alright looking at die now as an Australian I’m easily impressed with anything that has to do with winter I had to come up to the local ski resorts about three minutes up the road from the lake because I didn’t realize they wouldn’t be any convenience stores between the highway and the lake so I just bought some snacks chocolate chips all right I didn’t mention it before but we have here today for Matt Damon corporate champion yes–you Kazama yeah and Legend and Te’o Kikuchi hey and we’re gonna go for a ride with Kochi yeah did [Music] [Music] [Applause] all right bitch [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] I mean mr. hey mistake or consider it all right this is missing Osan what are you doing anything go zero zero more chapter than a what what to make of a shoe you’re gay you know much POV GeneXpert video see no T no way so hey as you can see the most popular car here today is definitely naturally aspirated s15 silvia you can buy them in manual alright so they’re coming manual na just a naturally aspirated sr 2-liter normal let’s dip of the airbox you don’t need to do anything to it it’s good enough I mean you saw with my turbo car I’m barely getting around I’m barely getting out of like 4000 rpm in first gear he may stop now so let me now on that just you know their all their kunoichi okay pitch invader steel wheel there Amory how could organize Django me tiny [Laughter] oh damn I said second who’s a lot of group of than that no No okay we’re out the whole front of the car is just packed with snow look yeah oh well oh whoa radiator fans not working okay that’s uh that’s interesting so the snows all packed I can move now the snow is all packed in look it snows all packed in there and the radiator fan couldn’t move I need to get a new new clutch for it now whoo yeah it works now okay well at least it’s working but that might have burned the clutch out because when I was I crashed before and when I was stopped I could see smoke come here to the engine bay and then the smoke stopped and when smoke stops it usually means that whatever you know was burning before it stopped burning so the yeah the clutch the clutch and the fan might be yeah look at have a little bit spinning for ya done well that was the part was probably going to change anyway well at least it’s winter and I’m gonna going back by the expressway so that shouldn’t be a problem at all so wheels are all full of full of snow there’s one more place of good and I just found over here there’s a hole right here and it just filled up all right that’s all from here today yeah chair Lake the mic to first run of the year first run of many a hope so seem to perform pretty well of course it’s it’s a fairly well abused car I used to not really pay too much attention to you know small details when I used to drive those if it ran that’s all I cared about so there’s a lot of work to do on this thing hopefully they see you will turn it into something really cool but successful first run that’s good enough for now so thanks for watching see you next time also got a two-stroke gym nice no player doing work

Them michellins are good tires. Here in the northeast(america) they are popular as well as bridgestone blizzaks(personal favorite for winter fun)

Snow gives you time to think about angle and form where dry pavement needs a level of commitment. Plus there's like no wear to the drivetrain on ice.

Modern studless winter tires are basically as good as studded in 80% of situations. All of our taxis in our company use studless winter tires and I would be using studless myself on my BMW if it hadn't come with few month old studded tires.

yes indeed reducing tire pressure helps with traction since the tire flatten and gives more surface area. a second bonus if you have enough rubber, the tire bends and apply the power progressively so instead of having a traction amount that is hair thin (meaning you can't even touch the throttle without spinning) you now have leeway on the gas and can accelerate.

they do that with drag cars combined with soft rear springs to extend that moment of traction since those 1000lbs of torque engines starts their torque early and all at once. for drift cars you practically want the opposite, the tires need to spin when you ask them too (instead of stubbornly refuse), hence why the low ride height thin tire and stiff suspensions!

i learned about the low tire pressure watching a north pole documentary where the guy was driving a big 4X4 with Deflated tires explaining why he was driving like that. (and works well in BeamNG Drive!)
