Boosted is by far the most popular electric
skateboard brand in the world. Much of that is due to their marketing budget
– they are after all a venture funded company. But the Boosted Board truly is a remarkable
product. To many people, it is the gold standard for
what an electric skateboard should be. Speaking as someone who has tried many different
electric skateboards, I personally don’t feel that there has been a legitimate direct
competitor to Boosted. It boggles the mind because there is obviously
a high demand for a cheaper Boosted Board. And likewise manufacturers obviously want
a bigger slice of Boosted’s customers. The solution seems simple: copy Boosted. Just make a cheaper Boosted Board. But for whatever reason, nobody has done it. There have been great alternatives and lots
of other options, but I don’t think there has ever been a legitimate “cheap Boosted
Board”, or “Boosted Board killer”,  or whatever you want to call it. They’ve all been just disappointing clickbaits
or boards that don’t have Boosted’s characteristics. To explain what I mean, let’s go through
what I think make a Boosted Board a Boosted Board. Boosted longboards have always used a flexy
deck. The first and second generation boards use
the Loaded Vanguard, and the current generation uses Boosted’s own composite deck. And because of the flexy deck, Boosted uses
dual enclosures, a design that is often associated with Boosted Boards. The iconic sound of a Boosted Board is the
sound of belt drive. And along with belt drive, unlike hub motors,
you get to use longboard wheels on all four axels. Boosted Boards, even today, are among the
most powerful electric skateboards for the average consumer. Many boards have higher top speeds than Boosted,
but few have more mid-range torque for climbing hills and zipping through traffic. Boosted Boards have the best controls out
of all the boards I’ve used. I’m talking about the throttle and brakes. The way they behave feels intuitive and is
virtually without lag. It just feels totally natural compared to
many other boards. Boosted is very much like the Apple of electric
skateboards. Their products are beautiful and often copied
by competitors. But few competitors pay as much attention
to detail in the design as Boosted. So if those are the defining characteristics
of a Boosted Board, what other board is there that has all of those same five characteristics
– flexy deck, belt drive, powerful, intuitive controls, and great design? I don’t think there is one! Or is there? Suppose such a board exists. Wouldn’t it be nice if that other board also
addresses some of the Boosted Board’s weaknesses? Longer range is a must, of course. Using parts from trusted skate brands again
would be nice. A speedometer and odometer on the remote would
be useful. And finally, not to nitpick, but nobody except
Boosted uses Mini-B cables anymore. I’m sure people would appreciate a USB-C port
for charging the remote. Look, I love Boosted Boards, but the Boosted
longboard is very expensive. I think it’s about time for there be an actual
cheaper alternative. And I don’t mean like the ones you’ve seen
on YouTube clickbaits with hub motors and the crap speed contollers. I mean an actual alternative that looks and
feels and performs like a Boosted Board. And I have a feeling that the WowGo 3X is
that board. For someone who wants a Boosted Board but
can’t justify spending around $1500, I think this might be the one to get. The WowGo 3 is similar but it uses hub motors. The WowGo 3X is more or less the same board
but with belt drive. Anyway, give me some time to try it out and
I’ll get back to you with a detailed review.

I love Boosted Boards, but WowGo 3X with belt drive gives me the feels…

Discount info after my rant! WowGo's latest product, the WowGo 3X, is the first legit competitor to Boosted. Yes, I said the first. Think about it. For people who want an eboard that's just like a Boosted Board but more affordable, these are likely the qualities they're looking for: Vanguard-like flexy deck, belt drive with great torque in both acceleration and brakes, great ESC for precise control, and good looking. There are other great boards, but the WowGo 3X is the only one today that shares all of those characteristics with Boosted.

If you're ready to get the board now, you can get the biggest discount by using my code at checkout: dkwan3x. Link: https://dkwan.com/wowgo3x.

Thanks Camilo, Canon, and Matt for helping out with this video!

Bummer for the 12s upgrade. So no option to use older packs or custom pack that were built at 10s because i don't think the hobbywing ESC acts like a vesc in that regard. So not gonna buy. Great Video though!

Damn 900$ that's not cheap, especially for something that has ony 6month of warranty. If it was similarly priced that the wowgo 3 I would have get it for sure but 300$ more it's a lot, let us know if it's worth it's price.

Only 24mph and 14 miles range advertised (so 8-10 real world), and $900, a 3 month wait and no local support. Thinking the SR Flex-E 2.0 is a better Boosted alternative for those of us in Europe.

You can't just go from the 500W (2x250W) power demand of the WowGo3 to the 1200W (2x600W) power demand of the WowGo3S and not upgrade for a more powerfull battery than that 10S2P Samsung 30Q battery pack to support it… That battery pack will just not be up to the task… At least certainly not in the long term.

Very nice ! BUT, 900 USD is over the top… waaay over the top of a price. Basically WowGo is telling us that JUST upgrading the drive is a 300 USD ADD-ON over the WowGo 3 (and you don't get the hubs) ??? Common this is not Exway quality nor costumer service either ! The other thing is the battery was okay for hubs, but 1200 Watts on a max 30A battery ??? 1200W at 36 volts means the controller has to supply 33.3 AMPS. But a single 30Q battery is rated max 15A (in the best, laboratory condition… as in ONE SINGLE CELL test NOT enclosed in a case, but rather cooled in FREE AIR). So in a pack, you can burst a 10S2P to 30A maybe for short burst… maybe you will damage your pack, likely… But 33A CONTINUOUS power demand frome the drives and controller ??? That battery is going to cook at 80-90 degree celcius under 30 minutes… At least Ownboard thought about this with the W2 having a 10S-THREE-(3!!)-P 45A rated 30Q pack. In general you want you pack to be rated AT LEAST DOUBLE THE AMP CURRENT of what the controller can handle, to ensure a good battery longevity. Boosted uses A123 Lithium-Nanophosphate 21650 2.5Ah cells that can burst at SIXTY AMPS (60A), not 15A 30Q-cells…. If you want to justify a 900 USD price tag and if you want to compete with Boosted torque level, you need A) A controller that can push serious AMPS of current and B) A battery that can RELIABLY provide that amount of CURRENT without becoming red hot and failing after 100 cycles. The A123 cells boosted use can very easily handle 1000+ cycles (60A rated LiFe-NanoPO4 A123 M1a 2.5Ah cells). At least, for that CRAZY high price, the WowGo3X should come stock with 10S2P Samsung 40T 6.0Ah, 60A 21700 cells. Not el cheapo Samsung 30Q… Samsung 30Q in 10S2P is just not enough for a controller that pushes 33.3AMPS and for motors that push a total 1200W… I have to admit the board looks beautifull, but 900 USD ?? Really ???  How about killing the market and selling it 700 USD ???? Or max 750 USD… Anyways, I"ll wait and see other experience with their batteries and maybe maybe commit to buy it next year if the price is right…

On-point analysis, Daniel. I've owned Boosteds for years and haven't seen any boards compare in terms of performance, comfort, durability, and design, but this one seems to come pretty close. And it only took 3+ years haha. Kind of a pity that it has to be such a direct copy, though

A board with the G3 plus deck, battery, esc, and front trucks and direct drive, easy swapable wheels. I would pay $1500 for this board over a boosted any day. Quiet as hub motors, torque like a belt drive, without the hassles of belts, easy swap to what ever wheel you want to rox! Yeah buddy.
