I’ve been told by gymnasts that you don’t through your head and shoulders back… bringing your knees close to your chest initiates the rotation and gives you the momentum you need to complete the rotation.

You should never throw you head and shoulders back, use your arms for momentum, you could throw a double easy with that height.

With a back flip the rotation should not be made by throwing your head and shoulders back it takes a lot of power away and makes your set lower. How high You set determines how high you go. You should be straight jumping with your arms up by your ears and then your knees come up and over your head to create rotation. Also throwing your head back can make you flip too soon making the flip dangerous as you might be too low to the ground.
