what's up guys this Brian Alzheimer never stayed calm and in our most requested video ever today we're going to do a gym tour of never State athletics maybe I should clean up a little bit what's happening Brian's show tomorrow I'm gonna need you to come in and move all this stuff out of here go ahead mop behind and just vacuum around the edges yeah and while you're at it why don't you go ahead and straighten those mats up a little bit that'd be great a lot of work alright guys so welcome to gym as you can see it is not very large so a gym tour may not be that interesting so what I thought I'd do is take you through and show you some equipment that I have and hopefully you will find that entertaining I'm a firm believer that if you're going to complain about something then you better do something to change it so rather than whining and crying about what I didn't have I decided to build it I've been going to commercial gym since I was teenager but I always got in trouble for using chalk or being loud or dropping weights not really being loud I don't know why I said that I don't really make noise when I lived there was a lot of equipment out there that I did not have access to in a commercial gym and the stuff that I could play with if I walk away from for 10 seconds someone walked in and took it dudes curling in my squat rack so rather than continually whine about it I decided to get off my butt and change my situation and I started building never say that let expire thumb job if you truly want something you need to go after it even if it seems completely overwhelming at first the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time and that's exactly what I've done I started out with a barbell and a couple bumper plates that was it and now this is where I'm at so stop whining about what you don't have and find a way to make it happen or stop complaining about it onto a tour all right so here in the prestigious East Wing of never State athletics I apologize I don't have anyone to videotape me so this is going to get kind of interesting all right so just real briefly right here we have some jerk blots which currently look like they are doing nothing more than holding up my gym bag which is what they do most of the time we have some more dirt plots over there that you guys get seen a little bit but we really do most of our overhead stuff a barracks so we really don't use them too much for that sometimes we will use them for other strongman movements something like power stairs for instance and as you can also see we have quite a few kettlebells ranging for 20 pounds all the way up to 150 pounds we mainly use them for conditioning not so much strength work everyone's well we will kind of switch them out with dumbbells because we don't have a lot of dumbbells so either between kettlebells with dumbbells you can get a certain amount of that type of work done but really we use them mainly for conditioning but I do want to point out the whiteboard because of our spot being so small everything needs to be run in class structure so I run a morning class then we have a little bit of open gym time and then a couple class in the evening most days of the week so either people get the workout the night before on the website never say calm you should definitely go there but if they did not check out the workout prior when they walk the door this is the first thing they're going to be greeted with and this is basically what they're going to do for the day a person write all the program for a gym but just by every single day consists of about 10 to 12 minutes conditioning to a strength portion more power lifting based kind of stuff like the main four lifts and then we go into some sort of strongman movement typically we do some sort of competition because competitions are pretty fun for people to get involved with and it doesn't matter what level you're at everyone comes in it doesn't matter if you let 5 pounds or 500 or 5,000 pounds no one cares all that people care about is that you come in and you give 100 percent of whatever you have to give however if you come in with the negative attitude or you just can't stop complaining you are out negative people are like a cancer in all environments but it's been an environment this small we try to keep it positive and everyone working hard and everyone trying to support each other so this is the whiteboard that is very very important and if we continue across the gym you will see this piece of equipment which looks like an airsoft bike but it's really the devil I hate that thing you will also notice behind me that we have two of our yolks right here yolk is one of the most versatile piece of equipment that you can possibly buy it's not only yolk it can also be used as a power rack you can use a sled you can use for grip training you can use it for a ton of things if you cannot afford power rack I would tell you to buy a yoke and use it for all of that you also see over here that we have a bunch of sandbags ranging from 115 pounds all the way up to 275 pounds and a ton of circus dumbbells we have a loadable handle that is 23 pounds we have the men's dumbbell to a medium size no bail and a woman says Dumbo and then this dumbbell right here in front that Slater felt that was actually my Jenkins old dumbbell that his wife gave to me at my first competition it's very special even though I hate it then of course we have a ton of stones ranging from 73 pounds working their way all the way up to the 400-pound stone I know it's only 398 but people I am calling it 400 which will hopefully be loaded at the end of next week hopefully we all scream called tyres inside so that they don't get completely filled with water during the wintertime and we can still flip them in here without messing up the gym too much and also not having to go outside in the ice and snow of the beautiful Maryland winters so that's why they're here and then over here you see a bunch of our strongman bars the top one is the rogue SSP bar and I consider SSB squats to be some of the best squad so you could possibly do for strongman training with fun squats in a close second and then the top rows here this is all farmers handles going down to axe and then we have a woman's image log any men's ten inch long but it's not really a men's low because all men's competitions use a 12 inch log however logs are extremely expensive and when I bought that one I could not get a 12 inch log from Road so I wanted ten inch log I still need to buy a twelve inch log I just can't justify right now and then if you look on the other side here you'll see a ton of bands we do a lot of conjugate training in my gym so we have all those bands from red monster minis all well to those purple and blue super heavy ones that are a beast but bands are super super important for my training I use them all the time we have many which brings us to my very first Iraq I was super stoked about this when I bought it it was the first piece of big equipment that I bought for the gym when we originally decided to go for it it is a row monster rack I think as well as a couple sledgehammers and that shiny thing down there that is a veterinary scale and that is massively important to our gym I got for Christmas last year but we're actually able to weigh the implements in our gym so when we say a stone weighs 400 pounds we're not taking it guess if you stick a lot of this stuff it's too heavy for a traditional like bathroom scale and we'll break it however if you have veterinary scale it's made for weighing baby cows but that is awesome because then we can actually say something weighs when it actually weighs as opposed to a lot of places just kind of guesstimate how much things actually do way you can also see our jump boxes and ply boxes and box quad boxes right back over there we use those a lot during conditioning and they're very special to me because my dad built them for me as well as dirt block and it was even so kind as to stencil never safe on there which is super super cool then and before we continue on with the video I want to talk about what is on the wall so you guys see a lot of flags a lot of you will make comments on these videos about why do you have the Icelandic flag why do you have Scottish flag things like that some of it has to do with my own personal heritage some of it has to do with the heritage of members that are Jim sometimes like they are sorry flag I don't have Icelandic blood that I know of Emme however the strong name roots are highly tied to the Iceland people Icelanders ice ice the people some of the banners on the walls are from companies that help support our Jim and then you'll see a bunch of competition t-shirts from either competitions I've done or competitions that people from my gym have done and then you'll see some flags here that people decided to donate to the gym you guys watch the videos and you wanted to be represented somehow so if you send me a flag I'll put it up a lot of people comment about 10th mountain flag in the corner but I was not 10th Mountain however one of the guys at my gym who was a coach actually was so he donated it we put it up and I display every single one that I get proudly which brings us to the centerpieces of the gym which is this huge robe monster rack I can't remember the dimensions so with you asked I don't know now we use this from squatting to benching to overhead press and we use it for everything it is the main piece of equipment that gets used in my gym on each corner you will see that we have vivid stations we keep them up high because our gym is small and if you are weaving in and out of stuff you're going to run into those and you can see climbing ropes hanging and they're kind of weaved around right now to stay up and out of the way when you run class in a place too small if you have 14 to 20 people inside of this room all moving at one time you need to be efficient with where you put these also hanging from Iraq you're going to see a couple sets of grenade pull-ups as well as a lead FPS blast wraps like I said we use this piece of equipment for just about everything from squatting to benching to overhead press it is awesome and in a gym like this you keep track of just about everything so a lot of our members have boxes up here on this whiteboard where they keep track of their PRS really that box is whatever they think is important if a stone PR is important it goes in the box if your deadlift is important it goes in the box if your blue ham braised is important it goes in the box and then I always keep one of the 4×4 whiteboards open because it is covered with queues for whatever contest is coming up for people if you guys read my article in T nation about strongman competitions you'll know that I like to make a list of all the events with all the Q's and all the kit that you're going to need and that board is designated for whatever competition is coming up for the members of our gym or myself and is basically that list laid out so they can look at it every single day when they're training there's also a ton of bumper plates alright so in this area the gym we have another power rack got some Olympic rings and you can see everyone's belts as well as stress we have a little sleds there some medicine balls a double candle the other part of the jerk blocks that is not being used as a place to stick my bag right now some loading pins at the bottom a rolling thunder' another bench and a ton of kegs ranging from empty kegs of use for throwing all the way to 45 pounds for beginners to get a feeling for how to do a kick clean and press or even a kick carry all the way up to 300 pounds which I ate and then next to the kegs we have a reverse hyper machine which is an awesome tool for building your squad putting your deadlift building the entire posterior chain also for decompressing your spine on especially heavy days also bad air we have an extra heavy bag that we use for every bag get ups or flows and a weight tree that is doing nothing more than holding an extension cord right now we just don't ever and then right down here in these two buckets we have collars now if you didn't know strongman bars are all dimension so when normal collar will not fit on it so you need to buy strongman collars and we have lots of both all right so our research you guys the strongman bar section gym now I'm showing you the powerlifting bar section of the gym the top bar is a Texas devil bar these are road car bars which I absolutely they have very very little flex the Texas deadlift bar if you guys don't know it has more whip to it so that means it's going to bend more as you're dead lifting up a lot of people can deadlift more with textedit bar be personally it doesn't really seem to matter much but the rogue power bar is what you're seeing here I use almost exclusively for my bench and my squats a very little flex these are all rogue powder bars which are all super nice but I do like the knurling on the road power bar the newer ones better and then there's some electric boaters down the bottom that don't have Center knurling but I don't really do much Olympic lifting I don't really know why I have them over here we have punch chains for either dragon things you can add in the bars but mostly we use bands we use up a way to pull ups or different types contraptions so we have some knee Rogers over here we have this really cool demo jacket my buddy Mike made specifically for the gym as you can see it's really awesome it's really useful when you're putting a ton of plates off you want to be lazy like me we also have some straps for the slides here in the center you see two long straps one shorter strap and then a couple of ropes over there for doing things like thao pull-ups or rope pull ups really good for working grip we also do different things as far as dragging with sleds with that any yoke here's here's no yoke and now the way or the prestigious west wing of the never state nation you got to see more yolks some prowlers tucked up back there against the wall again we need to save as much base we possibly can you see a weight vest back there and dumbbells or dumbbells here for 20 five to ninety pounds but it's not all the increments in between obviously there's not that many but to be policemen we don't do too much dumbbell stealth other than maybe Rose a little bit of benching maybe otherwise or just conditioning tools and between those dumbbells and the kettlebells that I first showed you you can get a lot of things done without much equipment so that's plus so in this last part of the gym you will also see our glute-ham raise another Prowler top back there the battle ropes a landmine the fridge a fan that big frame back there that is a car deadlift frame believe it or not we have to move everything out pull all that stuff out put it outside of our car when I think you can deadlift and also a punching bag yeah so I think that pretty much covers the stuff that is inside the building I'm sure there is something I forgot to mention to you guys as far as outside the gym is located on a massive piece of land where we can do pretty much anything that we want we have a terrific Hill for hill sprints a pond full of snapping turtles if you want to go swimming we have an awesome frame that one of our members built we also have a bunch of drums and other random carrying objects that sometimes show up a strongman shows and then we also have a bunch of different sizes of tires that stay outside year-round everything from very very small ones that beginners will use all the way up to the tire that like jackets dad gave me which I flipped but it was pretty miserable anyway guys I hope you enjoyed the video and the tour of never State athletics like I said it was built piece by piece it has been a long process if you guys asked me how much this all cost I could not tell you because I don't want to know all of it it calls all of it anyway there it is guys that is the stuff that is inside of my gym that you guys see in the background you guys see me using I know this video has been a long time coming in a lot you've been waiting a long time for it so I hope you enjoyed it thank you guys so much for watching if you were ever in the Maryland area a shoot me an email come in stop it train meet me hang out do whatever you want if you guys have any questions about any equipment if you guys want to know what brand it is or what weight it is or whatever the case may be just leave in the comment section down below and I will get back to you if you guys can't stop in I would encourage you to try to find a gym that has a lot of the same equipment because your training will go up tremendously if you can't find one build it I'll be back with another video early next week but until then go out and do something amazing real lives keep working hard be nice to each other people and I'll see you that

So my 16 year old has been working out for a year and a half and has grown significantly! Well after a year of not being able to have full access to my garage I've decided to build a gym on my property! He has decided he wanted to start incorporating strong man competition training in his workouts! Basically I just wanted to say you're an inspiration for us here. I here your in Maryland so being from Pennsylvania maybe a visit is our future! Thanks sir. Keep killing it

Brian: did you build the bar wall racks? If so, did you use pre-written plans?

That's a great gym. I am building a home gym in my garage like the equipment that you have. I just have some kettlebells sandbags water jugs med balls bands hopefully going to be putting up a pull up bar so my wife and I can use our suspension trainers and work on our pull ups. So this video gave me some ideas of what to pick up.

Hey man, you can get a 12" logbar pretty cheap (well, compared to others . It's still expensive) from CFF equipment. It's called The Executioner Logbar.

Would you suggest going in with a partner to open a gym? Also, how do you go about getting the equipment if you don't have your own funds? Do you lease the equipment?

"Frost giants." The ethnically correct term for people from Iceland is "frost giants."

Also it says cool things about your gym that when you're talking about a place you started and run with your own work, every sentence is about what WE do. Solid indicator of a good atmosphere.
