hi I'm Billy Garcia owner and coach freeride wakeboard school I'm going to help you get started in wakeboarding and now I'm going to show you how to get up on a wakeboard alright the proper way to put on your weight board is to have it on the back of ski platform set it down put one foot in at a time and then pull the laces tight make sure your boots fit properly that's probably one of the most important parts about the equipment is you want the boots to be snug also make sure your boots are pretty evened out you don't want to point facing one way or the other you want them pretty much even on the board so that when you do write switch you're not having to compensate body position for it okay once you have your board on make sure and grab the handle and go ahead and get in the water make sure you grab the handle both palms down and don't use the baseball grip you always want your hands palms down on the handle also make sure the handle is straight and up over the board facing the boat okay so the correct body position for start-up is to have your knees completely bent like you're in a little ball and have your arms around your knees almost straight you don't want your arms bent all the way or you won't want them inside your knees so make sure your arms are on your knees knees completely bent and you're in a little ball make sure to stay in that ball stay tucked wait for the board to pop out of the water and help yourself up the boats going to help you roll up over the front of the board so don't fight it all right let's go over correct body position once you're up and riding your feet are strapped into the board so obviously they can't move you want to have your knees over your toes and your hips over your heels the rotation is going to come from your ribcage over and not your hips you also want to have the handle out by your lead hip and your arms really should be the background should be straight across your body and your front arm should be slightly bent you also want both your knees to be super bent and almost equally weighted next I'm going to show you how to edge on your weight board

Everyone one is like I got my arms ripped out getting up on a wakeboard but try getting up on a monoski with two feet in. Then pass the big slalom then you'll actually know what your talking about

Another easy way to help people get up is to use a surf rope so the angle of the rope from the tower pulls you up faster. Also you can give them tips more easily that way. Still though very good vid.

A note for the drivers.. PLEASE throttle up gently…. I have had my arms almost ripped off by inexperienced drivers that want to accelerate hard in the same way you pull a skier out of the water..

@maddie5934 – Yes, point your toes toward the boat and angle the board to help it come out of the water…

@iConviicted – As the board starts to come out of the water, rotate the board slightly into your riding position. The pull of the boat will help complete the turn and you will come up in the riding position.. I always do it that way as I still don't like the sliding position.

it took me 15 tries to get up my first time. I'm sorry but a "baseball" grip worked for me and leaning back while getting up is the key.

great video, this is exactly how to wakeboard. Didn't know about having the arms being around you knees before you start. I got up on my 2nd try and while I was up for a while, I couldn't turn right at all, haha

@SuperbikeCoach its going to be really difficult to try learning to get up without a tower! For the simple reason of having the rope connected to the boat higher in the air. It will pull you UPwards instead of the forward pulling motion that happens when just connected to the back of the boat.
