– Hey guys, Jeremy here
from How To Hockey. A few days ago, I sharpened
my own hockey skates, so I’m about to play some
hockey, test them out. If you’re not familiar with the machine, it’s called the Sparx Skate Sharpener. I did a little demo a few days ago. Pretty much just put skates
in there, hit a button, and it sharpens for ya. So, I’m pretty interested
to see how the well of a job it does and by the way, why is it snowing in April? The Sparx isn’t a 100% automatic, there is a little bit of user input, so let’s kinda test to see
how foolproof it actually is. – [Woman] Jeremy. – Well, initial test, seems really good. I’m gonna have to go a
little bit harder though. Overall report. I’m not an expert, but I’ve
been skating for 25 years, and I feel great. It feels like a skate sharpening, that I got done at the store,
like a good skate sharpening. That was my first time using
it, so I’m really confident in using the machine to
sharpen my own skates. (electronic music) Hope this video helped,
if you have any questions, ask them in the comments section, I’ll do my best to answer them. And if you’re looking

Actually, Jeremy, you are officially considered an "expert" after doing something for 10,000 hours or more. 25 years of skating is well over 10,000 hours. So you CAN say you're an expert:)

first sharpening isn't what if be worried about. I'd be looking more at how the wheel degrades after a few sharpenings. I know we should to dress the wheel every 5 or so shaprpenings on a good day.

I've got to imagine sharpenings 35-50 aren't the smoothest

I had my goalie skates sharpened at a demo. didn't care for the sharpening this machine gave me. they didn't seem to have the bite I am used to. I do run a 4mm blade vs most blades are 3mm. I loved the idea of the Sparx machine. and being you only get 40-50 sharpenings per grinding disk, there is extra cost in the long run for the consumables. I am not saying this is a bad product, just didn't care for the sharpening on my goal skates. either you like it or you don't. I would like to try out a sharpening on my player skates.

I don't know why but it messes with me that you don't wear gaurds on those skates. I mean you might but I mean walking with them before you step onto the ice. Don't know if you did like cut that part out but AH. It messes me with people don't wear their gaurds. (Don't hate this comment this is just my opinion only. Don't start a comment flame war.)
