Highlights Day 1 from Courchevel. In Ladies, a new group of excellent skaters
took to the ice in the short program. Wonderful overall quality with one mistake
brought Kamila Valieva of Russia 62.31 and into third. A clean and beautiful performance from Seoyeong
Wi of Korea lifted her into 2nd with 65.75 and taking the lead after the short Maia
Khromykh of Russia with 67.72. In Men, clean performances by the top three
with Aleksa Rakic of Canada skating to Stargazing and earning 69.54 to take third. Another clean and quality program provided
by Matthew Nielsen of the United States earning 70.19 to capture second
and a powerful and difficult program delivered Yuma Kagiama of Japan earning 80.61 bringing
him into first place after the short.
