– [Announcer] It is the
first career NHL penalty shot for Darren Archibald. That probably won’t surprise you. And Archibald picks up
the puck with a chance to tie the game. Scores! (crowd cheers) – [Darren] Playing the
right way is, you know, paying attention to
details, being committed day in day out. You got to be consistent in this league. Just showing up and playing hard and doing the little things right every time you step on the ice. It’s a fine line between
winning and losing and if you bring it every
night and play the right way, you’re chances of winning are pretty good. I’ve had some good years, some frustrating years with injuries. Our Calder Cup run, I tore my MCL and I was out pretty
much the whole playoffs. Nobody ever wants to be sitting out. We all want to be on the
ice helping our team win. I’ve been really happy with myself and how I’ve overcome some adversity. I’ve never given up. I’ve stayed driven and focused
and I’ve worked really hard in the off seasons to achieve my goal of getting back to the NHL. – [Announcer] Puck cleared
out, here’s Archibald on a breakawy. Scores! – [Darren] To be able to
come to the rink every day and do something you love and that also happens to be your job, it’s pretty special. It beats working a desk job nine to five. We’re all passionate
about that … this game, in the locker room and
throughout the league. There’s not really a bad day when you’re in the National Hockey League. There’s not really too
much to complain about. To do something you love for a living is it’s unbelievable. – [Announcer] Takes a
look, feeds it to Sutter and the Canucks are two on one. Sutter with Archibald, Sutter
centers, Archibald scores! Shorthanded goal for Darren Archibald and the Canucks are up by two. – [Darren] Apart from scoring goals, I’m a big, physical guy. Any chance I see somebody in, deer in the headlights. Kind of on the train tracks, eyes light up a little bit
to get a big hit on somebody. – [Announcer] Sweeps it across, oh, big hit as the … – I know it brings energy to the building and it can swing a lot of momentum, playing a physical game. (crowd cheers) It’s a tough game. It’s a really fast game. For me, being a bigger guy,
over the last few years, I’ve really had to work
on my speed and quickness so you don’t fall behind. Every year it seems the players are getting faster and faster. To keep up, you’ve got to be
working hard in the summers. I always expect a lot from myself. I know there’s always
room for improvement. I’m trying to get better every single day. This is where I want to be. I want to have a home here and
try and set some tracks down and I want to be here the next year and just keep working hard
and try to stay in the NHL.
