well Euclid police have released body camera video of what they describe as a riot at a roller rink earlier this week the owner of that rink blames police for causing the chaos but the department stands by its officers today we've learned this city has filed a nuisance complaint to shut the business down channel threes ray Strickland is here to explain hi ray hey how you doing Sara Lucca police are refuting the owners claims they were the ones to blame for that chaos that night police say the crowd on Wednesday at mix Playmore was just too large and that they did what they had to do to control the potentially dangerous situation video outside of mix play more roller rink shows a large crowd of teens all waiting to get into an end of school year celebration Euclid Police say they were caught there Wednesday because of the crowd sighs and say they went inside to make sure the place was not overcapacity we went inside to make sure they weren't over there occupancy rating they weren't so we stood by with the fire department to do a headcount to make sure when they got to their occupancy of 440 that they closed the doors police say after the doors were closed more teens arrived and despite repeated commands to leave many didn't leading to pushing and shoving than fights in response police say officers followed protocol and used pepper spray and pepper balls to break up a crowd of more than 500 people lieutenant Mitch Houser defends the officer's actions the use of the OSI technology whether it was the spray and in most cases we were using an airburst spray spraying above the heads or the pepper balls which we would break them against hard surfaces is to put that irritant into the air to stop the kids from fighting to move them along out of a specific area and to dissuade them from doing any other type of phone activity that would be dangerous to us or them or anybody else after the first crowd had dispersed police say officers shut down the event which led to more fire police also say some nearby businesses were damaged forcing officers to use pepper spray again when that second crew group came out they acted unfortunately in a way we kind of expected it to and we had the manpower there to suppress what could have been a horrible horrible situation allegations have been made that officers stormed into the building like a SWAT unit which caused the riot Euclid police say those claims are totally false Euclid police say four people were arrested that night including three teenagers but there were no serious injuries police also say the owner did not have a permit for the party that's another another reason why they had to shut the party down the roller rink now has a another event planned for tonight and Euclid Police say they will be there to shut that down too much more on this story coming up tonight at 11 Sarah we will see you then thank you rain
