Hi! I’m Simone Fisher and I’m here at Clearwater
Ice Arena in sunny Clearwater, Florida. On behalf of Expert Village, we’re going to introduce
to you some advanced figure skating jumps. Hello! Now I’m going to demonstrate a half
flip. What we do in the half flip is we go into it by a left outside turn. We pick into
the ice, we jump off our pick, step again, and come immediately out. We come out on the
inside in. There’s a couple of steps to this jump, but it’s really important that we have
a good bend in our jumping legs. We get off the ice, we keep our back straight, and we
check out as always so we have a nice check out on our jump. I’m going to take 3 strokes
into this jump and I’m going to show you how it’s done. Okay, here I go. That is my half
flip.

This is intermediate at best, but not advanced. The lutz or the axel are advanced but not this.

A proper lutz is difficult to do.
Most skaters do a flutz, very few can perform a properly taken off lutz.

We even do not have this "jump" (I wouldn't call it jump) in Germany. We are just used to have a normal flip. And of course all the others. But none of them ist just half.

@pinilovesmilkduds you can go into a flip or half flip with a mohawk or a 3-turn, it doesn't really matter. But my coach tries to get me to do it both ways just so i have some variety 🙂

@pinkhearter13 If you're leftie skater, you can do it from a right outside three turn.

@NKR246 Well, for some of us, it's pretty advanced. I fall into that category as I literally just started working on this jump. However, I do understand that there are MUCH harder jumps to do (such as axels), so I understand where you are coming.

@jfluter Yep! I forgot to say my comment was at sassyqueen. An outside 3turn or a mohawk works, not one or the other.* That's all. 🙂 Sorry for being prejudiced against lefties. xD

@pinkhearter13 No worries whatsoever. I'm still trying to figure out if I'm a leftie or a rightie skater. Right now, I feel more comfortable jumping right-y, but spinning leftie. Yes, I know, I'm weird. I'll eventually get things figured out.

@jfluter wow, that's actually pretty cool xD I don't think there's anything really wrong with that, you get to strengthen both legs that way instead of just one. 🙂

am i supposed to learn something from this? Skating is about feet and legs…would be nice that besides the pretty face also the feet were filmed. Second… yes… a video of a jump 15 meters away from the camera. Thank god u were the experts… -.-'
