so much snow snow hi everyone it's coach Michelle Hong I'm here to show you a spirals video I want to show you six different spirals that are recommend to all of my students to make sure that they have a well-balanced program that shows off their flexibility and strength so let's get to it the first spiral is the traditional spiral that you learn in the pre pre moves in the field test I love to arch my back and make sure that my arms are extended like an airplane I practice the splits before I do this exercise stretching out on the wall is very important for our next one our next spiral is going to be called the assisted spiral or use my hand to grab my calf see how my back is nice and arched and my arm is extended so I could show off my elongation I love going into my spouse with the ton of speed this allows me to use the whole eye surface and makes it more impressive to judges in the audience the next style is called the Charlotte spiral I enter this spiral by going backwards when you first start learning the spiral it could get really overwhelming and scary because you have to drop your whole entire head and just trust your body but the more you practice the better you'll get at it the next hour we're preparing for is called the Chinese spiral see how I use my two fingers to grab ahold of my blade I want to make sure that I have a good grip so I could stretch my back and pull my leg all the way over above my head whenever I'm preparing for the Chinese spiral I want to make sure that my arm is locked though Chinese style is one of the most elegant positions in skating it's so beautiful because it allows you to arch your back show off your leg lines and you're also in a full split position with E a more difficult variation of the Chinese pile is called the bellman spiral if you have enough flexibility by doing bridges at home and enough slowly back on the ice then the bellman spiral is the perfect one for you it's very challenging because you have to use two hands to pull your leg above your head the more you practice it the better you'll get at it but it also takes a couple Falls you'll see in the bloopers what I'm talking about the sixth and final spiral that I'm showing you today is the side spiral I like to use the wall as my friend so I could stretch out my hamstring and my hips I'm showing you two different variations of the side spiral today one that's directly to the side using my left hand to lift my left leg and the other one is also lifting my left leg but I take the opposite arm to pull it up I like to enter the side spiral backwards using an outside edge this style is very perfect for transitions especially going into jumps I could easily go into an ax or a double axel from this position well maybe not easy but it will be challenge it will be very impressive to the judges sufers yeah that's right I kind of mess up on spiral sometime but it's okay as long as you laugh at yourself it's all good get back up and try it again what left well shoutout to my video logger for a thirst and dang for filming this entire video sideways angles and all thanks person you're amazing thanks so much for watching everyone I hope you enjoyed let me know in the comment section below which one your favorite spiral is and if you want to send me a video of yourself be sure to hashtag coach Michelle Hong on Instagram and tag me in all your posts or photos of youth skating I love you all so much bye

I've always had a hard time getting my spirals as high up as I want to. I can do the splits on the floor, but when I try assisted spirals, I can't seem to get my leg quite that high! Do you have any tips on how to get your leg higher?

Most of them is about flexibility, one must get it before do on ice. Some adults may lost the flexibility already

I had felt that if Michelle Kwan had added a Bielmann variant of her famous COE spiral, she would had garnered a higher chance of winning Olympic Gold. Tara Lipininski nailed the coffin shut with her triple-loop triple-loop combo at the 1998 Olympics and Sara Hughes edged her out with a technically more difficult program, while Kwan fell on her triple flip.

WOW! Just amazing!! I love them all, you are an amazing skater!!!! I wish I could make my spirals like that! But my big problem is that in a traditional spiral I don´t know how to open my hip and how to put my leg behind, also  my foot is down and a just can´t put it up!! 🙁 Can you help me with that please??

As a coach of 3 decades, I have off and on ice direction-edge-Type of position: I love teaching F O (ah tea tudeS) ,…Excuse me_PLEASE ( I speak it,.. "Grande ( rond de jambe en dehors) EN (Ah rah besk)" My Free style 3 kids learn and supplement with ballet looking for that 180degree 's. Stress the % of times that is common when learning a new element? I feel aggressive attempts must be made! PLEASE! More BLOOpers!! You are awesome~ and strectchy.

I love them all, and you do them all beautifully. I always enjoyed Sasha Cohen's side spiral and Charlotte spiral, so those are probably my two favorites, but nothing gives me goosebumps like a perfect traditional spiral. On that note, nothing ruins an otherwise splendid program for me faster than an ugly spiral. Those "little things" really do matter for the viewer!
