hey what's up guys kevin here from snowboardprocamp today I'm up snowboarding in Whistler BC and I just quickly wanted to show you guys five things that you really need to know if you're a beginner just from my experience of teaching beginners these are five things that always come up and they're very simple but once you know them they're just going to save you a lot of time and hassle and also keep you safer so let's quickly run through these five and I hope that they help you out so first thing we're gonna strap up our board but whenever you're strapping up your board and you need to put your snowboard down always put it down upside down because a lot of times what can happen is somebody puts their board down and then you let go of it and it goes shooting down the mountain and it turns into like a missile and it can really hurt somebody so if you ever put your board down always put it down upside down really good thing to know next when you're going to strap up so sometimes people they've never shopped up for board before so they don't know how to use the bindings that's totally normal but the bindings have these little ratchets and there's a bit of a space in there for your this part is called the ladder and this is the strap and you got the ratchet here and it just kind of slides in like that and then you lift it to take it off so you can practice a couple times with your foot out first just to get the hang of it and then once you're ready you can sit down behind your board whenever you're shopping up you always want to start with your front foot first so my front foots my right down nice and tight okay so now that you got your front foot strapped up the next thing you practice is actually going straight down a very small hill and learning how to drag your free foot in the snow to stop yourself and this is really important because when you go to ride the chairlift you're going to be riding with one foot so before you get to the chairlift practice going down a really easy slope and dragging your foot in the snow I'm going to keep half of my foot on my board and the other half is gonna drag in the snow so let's give that a try all right point my board straight and drag my toe in the snow to stop let's try it again cool guys you practicing dragging your foot in the snow you actually also want to learn how to walk up hills and this is a really important thing because when you're practicing you're going to spend a lot of time in flat areas walking up little Hills and the easiest way to walk up a hill get your toe into the snow put your free foot in front I just step one foot at a time awesome so now that we've done that a few times we can strap up both feet and now that we have both feet strapped in we can slide down the hill but you may not want to start on your heels and the fifth thing that you really want to know is how to roll onto your toes and the easiest way is to actually grab one of your knees and pull it over so I'm going to do that right now it's gonna grab underneath my knee and then pull it over so that I'm on my toes I'm also gonna flatten myself out of it alright now I'm good to stand up and slide down on my toes so I hope that these five beginner tips will really help you guys out those are things that I've always seen beginners I have a hard time with and then once they learn them it makes everything so much easier so I hope those things help if you guys want more beginner videos check out the beginner playlist I'll put a link to it right here and if you like this video and want to see more beginner videos give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends are learning to snowboard thanks for watching guys I thought there'd be safe and I'll see you guys in the next video soon

I snowboarded for the first time yesterday (never skateboarded, never ski'd, never surfed, bad at rollerskating, never ice skated) and I should have watched these videos. I could stay on the board if it was going straight but I didn't know how to slow down at all and since I would accelerate so quickly facing straight down hill I would fall on purpose to keep myself from going too fast and falling even harder or worse going off a cliff. I spent like 2 hours to get halfway down the beginner area and I literally just walked the rest of the way down lol. I figured if I kept going I was going to seriously hurt myself. My knees, shoulders, butt, back, and ankles are all sore.

I absolutely should have watched all of these videos first AND went out and tried practicing on somewhere relatively flat because the place I went to there were either little kids around and was really crowded or it seemed too steep for me to practice anything safely, especially with other people trying to ski and snowboard at the same time. I really didn't think it would be that difficult. I thought there would be a lot more traction so I wasn't expecting to move around like it was ice or something lol. So thanks for making these videos. They'll help me a lot if I ever go snowboarding again.

When climbing up the hill and digging your straped toe into the snow aren’t you scared of the bored hitting a rock you don’t see?

I'm doing a lesson tommorow can't wait. I snowboarded on mount Raoupaeo (don't know how to spell it) in New Zealand. First ever lesson.

In 2 hours I managed to get to the point where I could do "leafing" as well as a few turns on both the toe and heel edge. My instructor said my progression was amazing. What do you guys think?
