*Typing sounds* I’m in. What’s up guy- Oh, my gosh that was a lot more than I expected to have happen What’s up, guys and welcome to my first video of the new year as you can see today We’re gonna be talking about Four of my favorite cosplay hacks because I thought this was a good time since it’s the new year, the new Con season is just around the corner, so today I’m gonna be sharing some of my favorite cosplay hacks for you guys to use in the coming con season to up your cosplay game So without further ado, let’s get right into it. Number one is probably known by a lot of people I don’t know if it’s really common knowledge among most cosplayers But either way, it’s something that I really like doing so I thought I would share it with you today And that is wearing tights under your cosplay. I like doing this for multiple reasons. One I just find that makes my legs look nicer in photos, and you know, that’s a nice thing It’s kind of similar to why it’s good to wear makeup in photos. When you’re maybe like looking at yourself in the mirror, you don’t Really notice anything, everything looks kind of normal. But when you actually take a photo of yourself It’s common for your skin to maybe look kind of like more uneven or red Because cameras hate us. The same can kind of just be applied to like skin in general. That sounds really weird But you know what I mean? Hopefully, uh, sometimes in photos your skin can maybe sometimes look uneven, so similar to wearing foundation on your face Wearing tights kind of gives you the same effect in photos and makes everything kind of look more even If you have like bruises and stuff that you want to cover up — or if you’re like me And you don’t shave a lot So like… You know, that’s a thing — tights can be helpful for like covering up leg hair, covering up bruises and just making things look Nicer in photos! This all sounded a lot less weird in my head But it sounds a lot weirder now that I’m saying it out loud…. The second advantage to wearing tights under your cosplays is if you are wearing like knee-high or thigh high socks I find that when I’m wearing nylons underneath, it helps the socks stay up It doesn’t like keep them up permanently But I find that I have to adjust them less when I have Tights on underneath because the fibers of the fabrics kind of like stick to each other better You can also tape your socks up to help them stay up And if you’re feeling weird about like taping directly on to your skin Having the tights on gives you like an extra layer that you can tape on to or some people will even sew their socks to Their tights if that’s a cosplay that they are going to be doing a whole lot and they’re okay using that particular pair of tights permanently for that cosplay Then another little bonus using nylons is That if you like get hit with direct light you get like a little bit of a leg shine and like… That’s nice Again this all sounds really weird now that I’m saying it out loud, but it doesn’t sound as weird in my head And I hope you guys don’t think that any of this is weird… Basically, I just really like wearing tights with cosplays I like how it looks in photos And it just makes me feel a lot more comfortable and helps everything kind of stay together better So these are the ones that I usually use I bought these from Forever 21 — not sponsored by Forever 21 I don’t know if they still sell them I strongly recommend buying more expensive ones if you can because those are going to Run way less, like I’ve had these for years. They don’t have any real runs on them or anything They’ve held up really well. But you can find cheap ones, while they are cheaper like at the outset Ultimately you’re going to have to pretty much replace them every time you wear them because I find that they just run like crazy So buying more expensive ones and having them for years is a lot more economical And just easier and saves you a lot of time, so wherever possible get more expensive ones I know that We Love Colors is a fantastic site for buying tights. Unfortunately it’s really really expensive to buy from that website in Canada just because of conversion and shipping That’s our life here in Canada Everything’s more expensive when you’re buying from the US, but if you’re able to buy from We Love Colors That would probably be my first recommendation because I’ve heard really really good things about their products And I know that their tights hold up really well and are definitely worth the money Also, if you are going to wear tights with your cosplays I strongly recommend buying some of these, you’ve probably seen these before, you probably know what these are. These are the little sockettes and They’re just like little tiny socks that you can wear over top of your tights and these are going to significantly Extend the lifespan of your tights because I think anybody who has worn tights Directly with shoes knows how scuffed up and stained and wrecked they can get in pretty short order, so this is like a little barrier between your shoe and your tights These are a lot cheaper than tights so I find that these hold up a lot better than tights So you don’t really have to worry about replacing them too often But if anything happens to these, it’s way cheaper to replace these rather than your tights And so that’s just gonna help you save money and is also going to let you use your tights for a greater amount of time So I strongly recommend picking these up you can pretty much buy them at like any clothing store or Department store or even drug store. So cosplay hack number two which is kind of similar realm as this last hack But it’s sufficiently different enough that I feel like it deserves to be its own thing This is something that I think a lot of cosplayers don’t know about but it is such a life saver And it’s really helped me So I’m really excited to share it with you guys, that is Using skating tights. Skating tights are exactly what they sound like, they are tights That skaters use when they’re skating because ice is cold this is what they look like they’re about twenty dollars for a pair and Essentially they look like you’re just wearing normal tights and from a distance They look like you have bare legs But they are pretty much as thick as pants so they’re going to help keep you super super warm So if you’re doing a cosplay in the winter that has like shorts or a skirt Or a dress and you’re worried about being cold, these are a fantastic Fantastic thing to get. They’re not too expensive I’ve had this pair for like three or four years So you don’t have to worry about replacing them all that often Overall I just can’t recommend this enough because I know that cosplayers We don’t really think about like wearing season appropriate cosplays, and we think oh, I’ll be fine I’ll survive and then you get to the con And you’re super super cold because you’re wearing like shorts in the winter and it’s bad So these are fantastic for helping you stay warm regardless of what you’re wearing in whatever season. The other thing That these are good for is if you are wearing a cosplay that maybe you’re less comfortable with so for me I actually originally bought these for my Elastigirl cosplay from The Incredibles She wears a v-cut bodysuit And I wasn’t comfortable with having like my bare skin underneath because that’s a little bit more revealing than I was comfortable with and so I Decided to pick a pair of these up to wear underneath, so that made me more comfortable I feel more modest which is something that I’m more comfortable with in general So it’s pretty much like wearing pants underneath that outfit without looking like I was wearing pants. These are good for multiple uses They’re also good for everyday if you want to wear shorts or skirts in the winter, so yeah, skating tights, I can’t recommend them enough You can buy these at pretty much any skating or dance store. One thing that I do recommend though is to ask the people at The store about sizing ’cause I know that the sizing for these are a little bit different than normal tights. For example I always take a small, but these were actually medium, the lady working at the store recommended that I buy a medium So it’s just good just in case to talk to the people working at the store to help you with the sizing with that So cosplay hack number three is something that actually recently learned about and I’m so happy that I did this was a total lifesaver and that is wig clips. So these are basically a little kind of French comb style wig clips, you just Open them and close them And then they have a bunch of little holes in there to sew them into the wig cap of your wig, so basically if you Have a wig like a ponytail wig or a really long wig That’s really heavy in the back, oftentimes those wigs will Slide back a lot and so you have to keep pulling them forward, so that messes up the front of your wig And it’s stressful and then often times You don’t even know that it’s slid back So like your wig cap will be showing and nobody tells you and it’s just not a great time So these help so much I actually first used these with my comic book version Kylie Griffin cosplay when I was cos testing that cosplay I struggled a lot with the wig constantly slipping back Just because the ponytail was so heavy, so I decided to buy a couple of these and sew them in the front of the cap To basically help anchor them in the front, and it worked exceptionally exceptionally well. These are also super super cheap I bought these from Arda Canada’s website for I think a dollar fifty for a pair. You can get them cheaper at other places probably They’re really easy to just sew into the wig cap and they help So so much and really decrease that stress of like worrying about your wig Slipping back so I cannot recommend these enough you can buy them, like I said, at Arda Wigs or like Amazon or Ebay They’re really easy to come by and really cheap so definitely something to just kind of have a back stock of Just in case, because sometimes you never know when a wig is going to give you trouble so it’s good to just be able to Like whip these out, put them in your wig, and then you’ll be good for the con So wig clips are a lifesaver. So our fourth and final Cosplay hack for today is actually something that my friend Madeline or Party Chicken Cosplay taught me I’m sure that a lot of you probably are very familiar with who she is. This cosplay hack might sound a little bit weird but Like just trust me on this one it helps a lot so what you’re going to need are Some panty liners, and before I start, I know the people in the comments are going to be like “eww periods, pantyliners.” So to those people, I’m big on normalizing periods; people get periods, it’s a part of being a person It’s a normal thing It’s really not something to be squeamish about. Many people have periods, they don’t have control over having periods and like I said It’s just a normal, natural part of being a person that really should be normalized in society And it’s ridiculous that it’s not and as for the idea of using pantyliners um It’s kind of just like an unused Kleenex. There’s nothing gross or like Unsanitary about an unused brand new box of panty liners. It’s just like a brand new box of Kleenex in fact it’s a very very clean thing to put near yourself because That’s what it’s designed for. So basically what my friend said to do is to get a box of these these are very plain They don’t have a wing or anything They’re super cheap, super plain and what you do is you put these in the armpits of your cosplays to help soak up sweat. Anybody who’s gone to a con or gone to a photo shoot, you probably know It’s really easy to get sweaty and feel gross and like pit stains don’t look great in photos So this really helps a lot especially if you’re wearing something like a body suit, it really helps Just putting a couple of these in the armpits of your outfit And so it will help you avoid having like visible sweat stains And it’ll make you feel more comfortable and again it might sound like a really weird thing to do But it works and even if it’s a cosplay that isn’t going to show any sweat stains like when I cosplay Tracer, the jacket That I bought is made of pleather so like you’re not gonna see any sweat stains or anything But like it gets really warm really easily so having these in the armpits really helped me feel more comfortable Obviously it didn’t totally solve the problem, but it was definitely helpful in terms of comfort, but yeah These are super super plain ones. I think it was like four dollars for this whole box of them They don’t have to be anything fancy. Definitely don’t get anything with a wing also I’m not sponsored by Rexall pharmacies… But that’d be kind of interesting if I was. So yeah Those are four cosplay hacks for you guys to help kick off this con season I hope that you guys found these helpful. If you do use any of these and you find them beneficial Please be sure to let me know in the comments I’d love to hear from you guys, and if you have any cosplay hacks of your own Please also share those so we can all help up our cosplay game for the new year I hope that you guys all have a fantastic, fantastic 2018 I’m gonna be doing my best to keep improving my content for you guys And I really hope that you enjoy what I have in store for this year And I’d like to thank you all for your amazing amazing support I’m really excited to continue making videos and continue doing cosplay stuff this year, and yeah I can’t think you guys enough for all the amazing support and positivity that you have given so thank you so much for that. So uh Yeah, thank you guys so so much for watching I seriously appreciate it and I will see you guys all in my next video, but until then pandafaces please be sure to take care and hack the system, bye!

Those mini socks are nice to wear UNDER tights too because nails have a tendency to snag tights as well

Yeah, I went to school on Halloween in Pidge cosplay and was like "yeah, I have tan tights, why not". Couldn't find my tan ones , so I wore pink tights. I looked so ridiculous. Luckily I found my tan tights once I got home from school so that was nice.

Periods have always made me squeamish cuz it's 1.) Gross to deal with it 2.) It smells bad and 3.) It's the sheddings of my insides
It's just gross to me for some reason
But I don't get why people find panty liners and stuff gross? They're basically unused Kleenex, just like you said.

Here's a hack for cosplaying if you're drawing intricate designs anywhere on your body like a diamond on your hand or a heart or Star or crescent moon draw a stencil first then use that obviously cut it out but I found it easier to use a knife first then scissors so you don't get that line when you usually cut stuff out so yeah ( I am just a new be here)

Also, tights are good for covering your legs with an alternative skin color (Homestuck, Starfire, Steven Universe) without having to put makeup all over your legs. That way you save money, but also don't get your grease makeup all over the convention space.

As a figure skater I can tell you THOSE TIGHTS WILL KEEP YOU WARM imo they’re even more soft and comfortable than normal tights. Unfortunately they do not come in a lot of shades, in the skating world it is really acceptable to not have you tights match your skin tone (just being close) but it’s a lot more difficult in normal situations/cosplay

You could buy dance tights. They are made super strong so they usually don’t rip or run unless you use every ounce of strength you have. They also last you forever as well, wearing them under costumes is what they were made for.

If you're wearing skater socks/tights and you're wearing a skirt that goes below the knees, it's much cheaper to just get knee-high skating socks. They're thin, but they still work well.

A lady at a con I was at told me that you can use really thick sanitary pads to put in your heels to make them more comfortable to wear. It's her trick and it's a life saver. She said stick it to the inside of your shoe making sure to get it all the way to where the balls of your feet are and then fold the wings up on the sides and it really helps cushion your feet (pretty much all over) to make wearing heels for a long time more manageable!

the gender neutral description of periods just earned you a follower. i'm so fascinated by the panty liner idea, though. you could stick them on the undersides of big facial prosthetics. you could trim them down to fit under smaller prosthetics. you can wear them to avoid cameltoe and wedgies. just. all the ideas.
you've also given me the idea to take my thigh highs that i never wear because they slip and sew them into one of my slightly runned pairs of nude tights that i only keep to wear under pants in winter. like. holy crap.

Adding on to the tights go for dance tights. Bloch is a good cheap brand. They also sell them in a wide variety of different skin colors so if you have darker or lighter skin than the regular tan tights you’re covered. Personally I don’t do it that often because I don’t want to take off so many layers so also consider the amount of layers you will be wearing if it’s for a con and not something like a photo shoot.

I've heard that cheerleaders use the panty liner hack to keep pit stains away as well. With white clothing it starts staining yellow so yeah, just keeps it nicer looking. Plus, I've heard of people putting them in heels for sweat I think as well, or I might be wrong, but I'd think it would help with comfort more. That might have been what it was for. Prevent blisters and rashes more i guess.

On the note of nylons/tights: I've actually found that investing in a couple pairs of nude dance/ballet tights is a better option simply because they're made for dancers so they have to be made well and are nice and thick which keeps your legs warm too. 😀

Here’s a hack. If your character has no colored eyes and wears and eyepatches something like that, only buy the color that shows. And if they don’t show there eyes most of the time, don’t get the contacts. Same so much money!

Would you consider doing a video for people who would like to get into cosplay, but don't know where to start?

I’m just staring out in cosplay is it okay if I wear a Halloween costume until I get enough money to buy the real deal? I’m going as Alice from Alice in Wonderland and I found a really cute costume at Walmart and it’s what I can afford.

When I cosplayed the Doomworld version of Felicity(i.e the version of her from the alternate reality where she was out in the field as a vigilante because the rest of Team Arrow was dead) I ran into the problem of a) the pockets on my utility belt being too small to hold anything other than the folded, artificially aged photograph of Oliver I was using as a prop, and b) needing some way to carry the essentials- phone, wallet, lipstick, etc- with me in some way that would fit with the overall look of the cosplay and wouldn't detract or distract from it. So what I ended up doing was buying a black nylon hip pouch and using that to carry the stuff that I needed to have on my person during the con. It worked like a charm- I had plenty of room for everything I needed, plus it looked like something Doomworld Felicity would conceivably wear(due to her background as Team Arrow's "guy in the chair", so to speak, her approach to vigilantism was more gadget/tech based, like Batman's, so it fit that she would wear lots of pouches with which to carry her stuff). And as an added bonus, due to the fact that I wore it on my left hip for ease of access since I'm left handed, its placement almost echoed that of the flechettes that Oliver wears strapped to his left thigh, and that fit with the cosplay as well

probably a bit late to comment or ask a question on this video, but here goes.
you mention your own personal modesty. I've seen online numerous cosplayers that apparently don't feel the same. is there a line (if so, where is it) not to cross? when is it too much skin? or is just a personal thing?

I can relate to the sweat part. Growing up, I have had really bad extreme excessive sweating since before Kindergarten. I have tried all the deodorants and the pad thing. Nothing really worked accept a hoodie to hide the sweat stains. I would go through so many shirts in one day, and I hated trying on shirts because of it. When I got to late middle school or early high school, I started to get botox for my armpits to stop sweating. Of course, it is for only a short amount of time and temporary. In my last year of high school, we discovered Miradry, a permanent way to stop excessive sweating by microwaving the armpit sweat glands. It was too expensive, so we didn't do it then but last year I got it and it is a two-time procedure to fully do it. I got it and ever since then, I never needed to use deodorant anymore, I threw out all my deodorant since they were already used and I didn't need them anymore and I can wear one shirt a day. It was a relief.
