Hi, I’m Asha, creator of the Skatefresh apps and examiner for ICP. Welcome to Northwest London! As many of you know, I’ve fallen in love with Triskates and I haven’t thought once about going back to my 4 wheels. The Triskates have larger wheels, they’re faster and agile and pure fun to skate. I received many questions from skaters asking if Triskates are good for beginners & kids and I do think that they are! Although the wheels roll faster, which is true for Triskates, they are much safer over outdoor surfaces & they go over all bumps & obstacles more smoothly, so the risk of falling is reduced. Triskates also make turning easier, as the
center wheel acts as a pivot. Triskates are also lighter, so you need less energy to
skate for longer. They are also easier to handle & maneuver, especially
for kids who have less muscular strength than adults. Regardless of how many
wheels you choose to skate on, the most important thing that beginners really
need to get a handle on is learning how to skate and of course how to stop!
Today, we’re going to do something I haven’t seen done on camera before. We’re going to do a comparison test between people learning to skate on Triskates
& others learning in regular 4 wheeled inline skates. Obviously
different people learn at different rates. But it’s going to be interesting
to compare the 3 & 4 wheel skaters. So let’s go & meet our two groups
of intrepid skaters. My name’s Len, I’m 47. Oleg, I´m 38. Flavia, I’m 36. Moana, I´m 11. Tony, I´m 52. Mark, I´m 54. Luca, I´m 8 years old. Duncan & this is my very first time skating. I´m Eva, I´m 51. I want to learn to skate because it was a really great opportunity to get outside & get fit. I started to skate when my daughter started. It´s way more fun than the gym. I love the sensation of inline skating. It´s sociable, fun & great exercise. I’m pretty excited about the Triskates because I always have to do everything a bit different I never got to learn it properly, but hopefully with Asha´s help today that will be good-bye. Let’s descend to the grass. Make sure you have all your protective gear & helmets! You´re gone walk sideways. OK, let’s do a couple of things on
our knees. We’re gonna first try & basically practice what your knee pads are designed for, which is to be fallen on. If you practice falling here on the grass,
chances are it´s less likely to happen over there. So on tarmac, that will
actually slide. Straight knees is not what we want, bend knees, down we go is what we do want! So we have a go?
Yeah! I Think we´re ready. Bend more!
So it´s a bit lower than you´d think. After this first class there was time
for the skaters to train by themselves, get used to their skates & start
making some improvements. OK, halfway through an hour. It’s always really difficult when you first start each session, when you dangle all over the place. You think, oh my god, I can´t do this anymore. But after a few minutes, you just have to settle down. OK, I can skate! Trying to do some basic things, nice scissoring.
Some braking, that´s very important. I really like it!
At the beginning I thought it was really weird like 3 big wheels & I thought to
myself, oh my god, it’s impossible for beginners to try them and it’s not impossible! As soon as I practiced for half an hour I
just felt very comfortable. I tried out some of the things that we learned on the lesson with Asha, using Wave Powerslide Triskates. We had lessons with Asha & I want to put the things that we learned to practice. All my safety gear on of course before I start to skate. Helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards. I can now try and do a brake stop, I have to use my heel brake. Ready position… I´ve been practicing lemons, so what you think? I´ve been practicing heel brake stops this week, so what you think? Now it´s time for one more class before the final skate assessments. Welcome back everyone!
It’s great to see you. I hope you had some time to practice.
I know the weather hasn’t been great but I hope that some of the things we did last week are starting to feel a bit more familiar. Today we’re going to move on to basically how to skate faster. Until you skate a bit faster, you’re not going to get the fitness benefits that inline skating offers you. Just gonna do a little test to see
how you’re actually getting on. You are ready?
Right, let’s do it! Let´s get going. We´re gonna now learn how to skate faster. The skate should be inside the widest bit of your hip. We´re gonna do some scooting. We´re gonna do it along the line. Yes, fantastic! Well done,
you couldn´t have that done last time. Don´t let your arm fly, that means you´re pushing to fast. Tiny pushes. If your arm moves, you’re doing massive man pushes.
I want small little pushes. Better! Bend your knee, yes, squeeze!
Yes! You feel that?
Keep squeezing, keep bending. Yes! Look at my toes.
My toes roll over these lines at the same time. So this is called “Lunch & Roll”. OK, well done everyone!
That Lunch & Roll exercise is pretty useful. So, it’s evaluation time! Don’t get to nervous. I’m gonna be giving you a skills test
with a few different skills involved. That gives us the opportunity to compare the 4 wheeled learners & the 3-wheeled learners. Over here we have the 4 wheelers.
Do you have a team name? Flaming 4! Right, the Flaming 4´s, fantastic!
And over here what’s your name? We are the Triskating Tricksters! The Triskating Tricksters, your first test is basic skating & stopping. Stopping to a full
stop, which means there is no more rolling of your wheels. Your line is just
behind you, your pink line. Ready and go! Nice control!
Mark, you had a great stop. Yes, very good, off you go! Take it easy
bend your knees. Don’t go crazy. Good, touch the fence. Well done,
beautiful skating here! And we’re back for the end, well done!
Remember how your braking was the first week? It´s much better now! We hope that you enjoyed this video &
it´s gone some way to answering those comparison questions
between the traditional 4 wheeled inline skates & the new Triskates. The most important thing as always, bend your knees, learn how to brake and stop
properly and everything will be fine! Because when you skate well,
you do feel very much alive. WE LOVE TO SKATE! I really like the speed of these Triskates, but I´m more into slalom & tricks, so I think it’s a bit easier on the 4 wheel skates.
I’m gonna definitely give a try to Triskates, Just seeing that the progress these guys made on this lesson is very good. Duncan, are you gonna
stick to the Triskates? Definitely, yes, I´ve really really
enjoyed them. Really nice & smooth & very maneuverable. How about you, do you think you’ll stick to them? Yes! Compared to the 4 wheel skates, it’s much
smoother, particularly for street skating I think it´s better. Did you like the speed of them? They are a bit fast for me, but I have to get used to that. I found them fast, but you could control
the speed very easily, so I really like them! Really good, especially over rough surface,
it was like really easy to move forward and I think when street skating,
that´s gonna be a major benefit to me, so I really like them, yeah, really into them.
I´ve always used 4 wheelers, but seeing you on Triskates, I really want to give them a go.
So, I´m looking forward to trying them. I love it, I absolutely love it! Because I feel more balanced and also I feel taller & much more beautiful on that, I love it!
I’m going to buy some, because I want skates for street skating and Triskates
even out of ground, I think, much better than the smaller wheel skates I’ve got. Everyone in this group gained
all the basic skills that they need and you can see the Triskaters & the 4 wheel skaters, they’re all really
progressing at about the same rate. So, I don’t think the Triskates are more
difficult than 4 wheels. They’re different, but as long as you skate well
with good technique, everyone can adapt to those differences.
A lot of these Triskating beginners, they never skated on 4 wheels before, so
they don’t have a comparison. So, really, like I´ve said before, it’s far more
important what you’re doing & how you skate, rather than how many wheels you´ve got.
But everyone, they’re doing really, really great!

You got the sensation that larger wheel triskates are faster… but they aren't! I made several measurments and my Kaze 4×80 wheel skates hold speed far better then the 3×110 Kaze Supercruiser.
Just try to compare some good 4×80 wheelers against triskates on a slope, they will roll way much further. The difference is about 30%!
    Just try them!

I love the fact that I can switch from 4 wheel to 3 wheel frames with my Powerslide TAU skates and I love both frames, but both for different reasons. The triskates (3x110mm) are definitely faster and MUCH smoother on the street. The 4 wheel skates (4x80mm) are much more fun for tricks. Then again, my 4 wheel setup is rockered so it is like always being on two wheels with the ability to shift what two wheels I am using at what time.
If I had to choose only one frame, it would have to be the triskate frame. Far more versatile over all and still a blast even with tricks.

I have both of them(110, 125 and 80), and I realy prefer the 3 wheels, they are better to parks and streets, I only use the 80 to small places.

Been skeptical about triskate but considering I constantly use rollers to move around my city, and the ground is terrible, I'm starting to think about getting them.

Would 125 wheels be no good for a beginner? I think all of them are on 100 or 110s. Awesome video! Asha's explanations are just too the point.
