25 Worst Fashion Mistakes
[0:00:00] [Music]
So, I was thinking about this and I came out with three situations which a man can wear
a baseball cap backwards. First up, he’s playing baseball and playing
the position of catcher. The second situation, the guy is working out
wearing a baseball cap and he’s running into a headwind. In that case, he turns the hat around because
he doesn’t want it to blow off his head. And, the third reason, he knows that wearing
a baseball cap backwards, annoys all those style snubs and he wants to have fun with
them. In today’s video, gents, we’re counting
down the top twenty five worst fashion mistakes that men make. So, coming in at number 25, wearing sunglasses
on the back of your head. Now, I thought about rating this one worst,
but honestly I think there are some guys out there, they think the signals I can see you,
I’ve got eyes on the back of my head. So, if that’s the case, well, all the more
power to you because I haven’t seen a study that says it works or it doesn’t. I think I actually saw something. This may work. Coming in at number 24, sneakers worn with
a suit. These are nice sneakers, but don’t wear
them with a suit. These are dark-colored sneakers, still, do
not wear them with a suit. These are running shoes. If you’re wearing these with a suit, God
help you. And, this is a pair of dress shoes. This is what you wear with a suit. Makes sense? Okay. Next up, on the list, we’ve got the overstuffed
wallet. Really it’s about all those credit cards,
all those membership cards, all those excess cards that you don’t really need. And, because you don’t want that big wallet
that’s going to cause back issues. Now, if it’s overstuffed with cash, that’s
fine. Oversized logos, gentlemen, just say no, unless
you’re a brand ambassador getting paid to wear it. Next up, we’ve got man purses, man buns. I’ve got mixed feeling about these. I think some guys can tastefully pull it off. And this bag right here, this is my bag. I call it though a small satchel, not a man
bag. But, guys, I want to hear from you down in
the comments. Agree? Disagree? What do you think of the man bun, man purses? I want to hear from you guys. Next up, we’ve got matching the necktie
with the pocket square exactly. The issue here is it looks like you bought
is as a set that you didn’t think. What you want to go for is a tie and a pocket
square that complement each other. Always tucking your dress shirt. Wearing a dress shirt untucked is never a
good look. And, when you tuck it in, you want to make
sure it stays tucked in that you don’t have this billowing cloud of excess fabric. Now, if you are dealing with the excess material
a.k.a. the muffin top, if your shirts are not staying tucked in all day or if you just
want a sharper look, guys, you need to look at the shirt tail garter. The shirt tail garters I personally recommend
and use, KK & Jay. Guys, they’re made in the United States
in Brooklyn. I’m linking to them down in the description
with the best discount code you’re going to find out there. So, why do I love KK & Jay? Why do I keep them as a sponsor? Why do I recommend them to you? Because, guys, they make a quality product. Years ago, this is the first ones that they
sent to me. I’ve used these easily over a hundred times. But, what’s funny about that is that they
didn’t just rest on their laurels, they came out with better designs, they came out
with a stronger elastic. They really didn’t need to, but they did
it anyway. These guys continue to innovate. So, here’s an example of their innovation. They understand that summer is coming up,
a lot of you guys want to wear no-show socks, but you still want to keep your shirt tucked
in. So, you attach this to the bottom of your
shirt and then this goes around your calf. You don’t even have to wear socks to be
able to keep your shirts tucked in. Next up, we’ve got the fully buttoned shirt. And, I think this one is open to debate. Me, personally, I think a younger man that
knows style that knows fashion can actually pull this look off. Now, for older guys, I don’t think it works. It’s a younger man’s look. I think you need to war a necktie to complement
this. So, coming in next on the countdown we’ve
got clip-on suspenders and then clip-on ties. Now, with clip-on suspenders, the issue here
is it shows that you really haven’t put in the effort. You’re trying to look good in suspenders,
but you’re not fully committed. So, what’s the alternative to clip-on suspenders? Classic button suspenders. You’re going to have to make the commitment,
you’re going to want to sew buttons in on the inside of your trousers and then, you’re
going to go want to pick up a pair of suspenders that has buttonholes. And you’re going to find that this is going
to fit a lot better, you’re going to be able to actually hold more weight on it, it’s
going to be more comfortable and it’s going to be a lot more stylish. And, by the way, this can also be found over
at KK & Jay. So now, let’s talk about clip-on ties and
this one’s a bigger offense because you’re clearly showing I don’t have the time, I
don’t care enough to learn how to tie a tie. Guys, it’s not that difficult, it is the
first step in becoming a man. Learn how to tie a tie. So, coming in next on the countdown, wearing
gym clothes all day. Gym clothes are made to be worn to the gym. They serve a purpose, they’re functional,
they allow freedom of movement, they allow you to sweat wick away moisture. Now, I get it, gym clothing is comfortable,
but a lot of people have a misconception that dress clothing that nice clothing is uncomfortable. That’s not the case when it fits you when
you become familiar with it and when you practice wearing it and you like the way that dressing
sharp makes you feel. [0:03:38]
And, that’s what I’m shooting for here is you never know when opportunity is going
to present itself. You could be meeting your future wife and
not even know it. You could be talking to that guy that could
turn in to be a huge business partner. But, if you’re not dressed the part, you’re
going to miss that opportunity, and that’s what we want to avoid. Loose-fitted khakis also known as the khaki
diaper butt. Guys, if your khakis are so loose, if there
is all these excess material, don’t buy them or get them adjusted to fit you better. You don’t want to have the whole khaki diaper
butt look. If you’re going to bring headwear into your
wardrobe, congratulations, it’s going to help you stand the part, but what you don’t
want to do is make really big glaring mistakes especially for people that know this. So, know when do you want to take the hat
off, when do you want to wear it, when is it inappropriate to wear headwear. Next up, we’ve got the oversized super long
t-shirt. I thought this was just bad fit, but apparently
it’s a fashion trend. I advise staying away from it. And, speaking of bad t-shirt trends, the scoop
neck t-shirt. This looks good on absolutely nobody. I don’t want to see and no one I’ve ever
talked to wants to see your man cleavage. So, we’re breaking into the top ten here. Now, this one I think would be obvious, but
some guys still violate it, white socks with a suit and dress shoes. This never looks good. Jorts. This falls between shorts and trousers in
terms of length and when it comes to style, there is absolutely none here. Please avoid. And speaking of shorts, let’s talk about
the infamous cargo shorts. I could have put them on this list, but decided
not to because I do think a man can pull off cargo shorts assuming they’re not camouflage,
they’re not old and you know stained and torn up. What you want to look for is a simple clean
design. And, most of the shorts in your wardrobe should
actually be without the cargo pocket, they should just have a seven to nine-inch inseam,
fits you well, look good, and not be overly sized. Crocs. Enough said. All right, gents. So now, we’re getting into the worst of
the worst. Socks with sandals, it’s like oil and water. They’re not made to go with each other. Sandals are made to be worn without socks. Unpolished dress shoes. My issue here is that you’re not taking
care of something that you spent good money on and you need to take care of your dress
shoes. The polish is going to protect your shoes
from the elements from salt from everything out there that can damage them. Wearing jeans or trousers that you haven’t
hemmed properly. If they’re too long you’re simply wearing
them you’re tearing out the bottom. Guys, this is a horrible look. Take the time to properly hem your jeans and
your trousers. Skinny jeans on guys that are not skinny. Please, don’t do this. Long dirty nails. Cut your nails and clean them. So, coming in at number 1, the worst fashion
mistake that a man can make, sagging pants. Now, I was genuinely curious why would a man
follow a fashion trend like this? Now, there’s a lot of misinformation about
this fashion trend, a lot of people say, oh, it came out of the prison system, it showed
that you are open to certain favors. Now, that’s only partially true. Apparently in prison you can’t wear a belt,
so we saw a lot of the sagging pants and it was something that sent a signal of I am rejecting
the culture and it also force the person to walk in a certain way. And, if you want to improve your style without
spending any money, check out this other video right here, guys. I’m going to talk about and give you tips
to improve your style without having to go out there and buy new clothes. [0:06:51] End of audio

I appreciate your channel. It's given me a lot of advice. I disagree with the man purse statement partially. It's a very popular trend in streetwear and adds to the outfit. But these man purses don't go with just everything, they can be worn at certain times with certain clothes. Also, I believe oversized long tees are fine to a certain degree. When they're maybe 2-3in down from your waist, it's fine imo. When they're down to your knees it's a problem.

Great rundown Antonio! I'm a grown man and when I wear a necktie, I always tie it. However, to this day I don't know how to tie a bow tie and I am a military veteran. In mess dress, I would wear a pre-tied bow tie and when I wear a tuxedo, the same thing. I simply wear suits more than black tie.

Aside from no fully formed opinion on the trend of using Fanny packs as messenger bags, I honestly have no issue with the “man bag.” As someone who wears contact lens, the need to keep my glasses close by in case of an emergency is one of my primary reasons for carrying a bag. I also feel it can look classier than a back pack. And as someone who lives in a big city, I do not like the idea of having the openings of a backpack behind me.

I used to wear jorts and cargo shorts regularly, but after I graduated college, I started making my own style decisions. The jorts ended up in the donation box and I only use the cargo shorts when visiting amusement parks (something to secure my wallet, etc. in) when going on some of the more wilder rides.
I also have a pair of Crocs (or more accurately, knock-off Crocs), but only use them when walking to the pool.

Hey Antonio! Thanks for another video. I’ve been watching your videos for years now and they’ve really helped me come into my own. I’m in my early twenties always trying to refine my style and after growing out my hair as a phase in college to prove I could pull it off, I’ve gotten so many compliments on it (it’s a little past shoulder length) and more importantly I’ve grown to absolutely love it. It gives me confidence and I can wear it all sorts of ways to fit the proper occasion. I’m kind of desperate to see a more professional opinion on long hair in general and there is NO content on it. In general I see most guys with long hair doing it WRONG and I’d love to see a video you do with somebody successful, stylish, and professional with hair that can be tied back and talk about it. PS the “man bun” as in high and messy should not be worn on every occasion. I love it but only in the proper setting like when I go to a coffee shop for homework. It is kind of 2016 at this point

    Additional fashion mistakes include:
Low-waist trousers: whether you are skinny or fat, no one wants to see butt crack or underwear (if you wear any) when you bend or squat (such as picking up something off the floor or a low shelf or perhaps tying a shoe).

Super tight or skin-hugging trousers: Ill-fitting, skin hugging trousers can cause a man's private parts to be way-too compressed, too long. Years ago, a Brazilian study on testicular cancer revealed higher rates among men to wore skinny, tight trousers. Also, skinny-tight trousers can result in unsightly bulges, which the public absolutely does not need to see. Tucking the parts down and under only exasperates the cancer and health risk.

    Oversize belt buckles. Ouch!

Rips and tears in clothing. Please.

Sunglasses worn backwards…banned by all branches of the military (last time I checked) and the source of endless verbal counselings of 17-18 y/o soldier/sailors/airmen/Marines. Good vid!

As a compliment to what you said, wearing suspenders (even if they are button) with trousers that have belt loops. Or even worse, wearing suspenders with belts.
