you say the same thing about the middle lane with the cars configured the way they are saying to be the one at all his rules Hill Allen remember here in April it was Bobby Hamilton that came charging from the back to win now to catch up without back in front of him but several drivers waiting for the 55 to do something back to the car they want to and I think they're right that's the only cars they're going to have a chance to get by the egg car then once their body a car then it's going to be a free-for-all but it's getting real tough to do that with these five or six cars behind Dale jr. lined up the laps running out Bobby down in that inside lane and fill that drafting hole now things are going to get interesting the line is closed the first one to break out and make the to the outside among this leave group eight laps to go they need to hurry because if the other line gets up next to the one that Kenny Wallace is waiting they're not going to have a chance to make a move there was Tony Stewart and Bobby Hamilton a food Stewart bales back out to the inside was he just trying to shake Hamilton and get Bobby up behind him and babe if he did it worked now the to Gibbs cars are together we got two Roush cars up there Kenseth and Burton Jr's all lost his drafting partner with michael waltrip when auto race Kenny Wallace there in the yellow car on back in traffic here comes Stewart outside of Kenseth Loney quickly jumped on the fat I'm going to jump out right now right fir that Tony car and let the 20 car push me by the 8 car Tony Stewart rode around at the back of the pack all race long hoping to avoid now in the final laps he's on the charge Racing Venson 4/3 on the outside per second the top side clear up Yale jr. moves to one and Hamilton is in the middle to be six laps to go start with the rub the inside body there yeah the left side wheels down there buddy no did he cross it but buddy help – bye – man got run down there – though the same exact everything that happened at Daytona three-wide up front come in the five to go Five Fingers please don't anybody make a mistake yes three wide behind you well there's the middle lane ty Norris Dale Earnhardt jr. spotter bobby labonte going to try the outside Junior's going to move up and crowded here comes Mark Martin from where we come from and Kenny was he was back about 10 to 12 just a few laps ago Martin pushes brought me the body out to the lead or to go Levani led 24 laps earlier today he's got a very strong car look at Bobby Hamilton force a hole to the inside of Kenny Wallace I take one right now if it's about 12 feet wide they're going for the car in there's fog across at the 77th oh I'm moving Stewart the second Hamilton by Dale jr. so hurry laughs to go what drama here at Talladega Bobby Labonte leads Tony Stewart a second Bobby Hamilton his third all 30 cars on the lead lap in a big pack and Brett Bodine is 28th position four seconds behind the leader Jeff Gordon drawing within range of the leaders keep an eye on that 24 car its money time he usually shows up about them Jr drives up the racetrack right in front of Bobby Hamilton Hamilton is a very good way Stein Stewart all second place this is unbelievable I will see the a car any help to get by other powers Ricky Craven looking all Dale jr. moves down to block Tony Stewart the a car does go around the 18 the 20 will go with the 18 Ricky Craven drops up behind fifty-five car trying to help the white flag is up Lambert Allen a guy who's a carbine Levani Earnhardt jr. Stewart or maybe something on our pack look at this bullfight mr. Robert witches with you Oh hottie blocks Bobby Hamilton it's the final lap they're racing back for the win Delhi juniors or two side-by-side from the victory is Jeb Burton gets in the middle of it at least 10 cars involved in the wreck of the backstretch in Storer side-by-side that's all Earnhardt jr. needs to see Dale Earnhardt jr. as one of the million bonus here at Talladega or because there's a big crane to the bank the big crash happened on the final lap racing for the win Bobby Labonte's car upside down Ricky Craven just climbed from his car terry labonte driving back around Dave burns Allen the 18 crew written here'd a radio transmission from Bobby Labonte that he was okay we understand now he is out of his car so they're going to pick up here they know Bobby's okay we are looking at it now Dave he has climbed from the car good news and Ricky Craven crime from his car just sat down there you see him sitting on the ground ricky rudd trying to make it around to the finish line Dale Jarrett hasn't come around Robert Pressley Ward Burton buckshot Jones Johnny Benson Henry other hours and all thank you give me fuel gimme fire gimme that which I desire

I still can't believe Tony went with JR and really can't believe Bobby L. tried to block B. Hamilton.

Yesterday's races were the best…. Today, low car count, low fan count,
    low advertising $$….equals bad racing….Wake up NASCAR…

Just everything you want in a plate finish. They were able to race all the way to the end without drivers losing their brains and causing wreck after wreck after wreck to destroy any rythym the race had, and yet at the same time they didn't all pussyfoot around until the last lap. And then when they did wreck they were able to race back instead of it ending under caution. Add to that the great commentary and those old engine sounds, oh yeah and my favorite driver won… you don't see finishes like this today, they're all either parades or half the field is already wrecked by halfway, sometimes both.

Yeah this was good proved that the win in Daytona was no fluke as DEI dominated restrictor plates I was 21 at the time remember media couple drivers saying the race was fixed and this race showed it wasn't and Dale Jr dominated the restrictor plates with Waltrip getting couple more too DEI had badass Restrictor plate package from 2001-2004

His dad taught him more about drafting before anyone else caught on to what he was doing, including the announcers. Today you hear the commentators mention that phrase a thousand times during a plate race, but you don’t hear it mentioned one time during those early years of Jr.’s career when he dominating plate races. He didn’t learn that on his own. That’s why his dad dominated there as well. He taught him the art of side drafting and taught him well as proven by his at plate race stats at that time.

That plate package was the best restrictor plate package with the wicker bills on the roofs. It debuted in Dales incredible last win at Talladega in fall 2000 Winston 500 and they kept it for all the plate races in 2001. Its a damn shame they got rid of it in 2002 that was another overreaction to Dales death by Nascar and didn't contribute to the accident. It actually allowed great passes which the fans and drivers loved
