on the second day of the NHL Entry Draft race Shiro made a very big move for the Devils franchise in acquiring PK Subin defenseman from the Nashville Predators and now you are here in Jersey for the first time welcome PK thank you thank you I'm happy to be here what of the last couple days like Ben I know you've been here for a little bit yeah I got in on Sunday you know it's been great you know for me obviously going through a trade situation for the second time but also going through a situation where I was really really excited you know and I think that understanding the situation that I was in a Nashville and understanding their cap situation and the fact that I've been there for three years and knowing that me going to that team was trying to have a window where we could possibly contend for a Stanley Cup and we went to a Cup final and one of Presidents Trophy and just it didn't happen for us so now it's kind of business knowing to manage the cap it but I know I'm the day that when I got traded all I wanted to hear was where I was going and I was really excited that it was New Jersey I mean I was ecstatic I have a lot of friends and people that are attached this organization players that I've played with in the past got Gomez who's a very good friend of mine Brian Gionta who was our captain for a bit Montreal who have won championships here and obviously knowing Marty and understanding the career and the legacy that he has here in Patrick Elio getting having these guys reach out to me after the trade it just it's they're a first-class organization there's no question for me my my skills coach cam who's been here for the past few days we're just blown away at how they've treated us so the past couple days have been exciting and also Lindsay she's she's really excited to be here so it's all it's all been good and the only thing left is to go hit the ice and perform your puppy is here to your dog you know three dogs checked out the locker room made sure it was okay for you yeah I acquired three dogs through free agency when I signed Lindsay so we haven't signed her long term yet but we're working on that part of it but yeah I got three dogs Lucy Leo and Bear and they're gonna be making the trip up here with us you know in August when we come here full-time so very very excited everyone's really really happy about the transition one of the things I know about you and having heard you be traded out of Montreal for that first time and now here you've always said that when you're traded you kind of feel lucky like you feel that there's a luck involved in that yeah well I feel extra lucky in this situation because I'm very happy and proud of the years that I had in Nashville you know I was very proud of the years that I had in Montreal as well but especially in Nashville because going into that situation wasn't easy you know obviously being a player that at 27 years old and going into a team that's been very competitive over those years and contending for a Stanley Cup you know it was tough you know and I had some unlucky years with injuries which is something I'm not really used to in my career I mean I've spent the most of my career on the ice and you know two out of those three years I had some injury trouble I missed 17 games the first year and 21 and and just weird you know just really really weird and those things happen but through all those things as a team and individually you know I had some amazing things happen for me you know going to a Stanley Cup final getting an opportunity to play for the Stanley Cup obviously was the biggest highlight winning a presidents trophy conference final division championships and then individually being up for another Norris Trophy and being captain the all-star team something that I've never had before so there were a lot of highlights of those years so I'm very proud of that but coming to New Jersey it's a different situation this is a team that I believe can contend for a Stanley Cup in a very short future and my job is to just come in and be a part of this team and be a part of the growth process with all these players and young talent and I'm really really excited about that I believe that you need young talent to win now and there's a ton of it in this locker room and I think I've heard great things about coach Hines a lot of friends and people that know him and have gone to school with them played with them great things I've heard some I'm really excited to play for him as well you told me that you've had a chance to chat with coach Hines What did he say to you when you finally got that chance to meet him face to face what was that conversation like well you can you can understand exactly why the players love to play for him you know and in particular like I've never ever felt I never ever want a coach to feel like he needs to be my friend I always want a coach to be the coach and and you know I'm the type of guy that wants to be held accountable all the time so I respect coaches but for him he's just you can tell with his personalities a player's coach and he's very considerate of understanding what players need and wanting to know what players need but the same token understand that he has a job to do and his jobs to hold you accountable and I want to be held accountable like everyone else but understanding my role I guess that meeting was just about getting to know each other and you know my biggest question to him was understanding my role on this team coming in and how he wants me to fit in and I know that for me you know they're excited to have me and I'm excited to also be in a position where I feel I can feel more comfortable being more of a go-to guy in all situations so it seems that was the message and I'm gonna relish that opportunity let me take you back to June 10th before you were a member of this team you were on ESPN and you were talking about the Toronto Raptors on first take and you threw out a New Jersey Devil reference when talking about Kawhi Leonard and the way he plays up and down the court I mean are you a prophet like like where did that come from so any compliment the Devils play and here you are well I was dead serious like you know it is kind of funny now that I end up playing for the Devils but you know anybody that knows sports you know if you're really a student of sports then you would understand some of the greatest teams in every sport and those time periods and I specifically remember that time period and the one thing that I was excited about coming to New Jersey is the system that they play with and because it's about winning it's not about how you win or how it looks it's about winning and I want to win you know I'm thirty years old now and I want to win a Stanley Cup I haven't won I've been with Stanley Cup Finals so I have that experience I got a ton of games in the playoffs which is great but I want a ring you know I want multiple ones and and this is an organization that knows how to win and I believe that with with Heinz ease systems and the systems that the New Jersey Devils have had over the years that they know how to win as well and I expressed that you know because I really believe that the Toronto Raptors won because their ability to play as a team yes they did have ultimately one of the greatest players in the game but if you look at his style of play it wasn't just on the offensive side was on the defensive side too and it complemented his whole team and his teammates so you know coming into this team not to compare myself to Kawhi Leonard or anything like that but I want to come in and be a part of a system be a part of something special and find a way to to win and that's it I mean my goal is to win here in New Jersey

Maybe PK can fix the crime and filth that is Newark, one of America’s favorite favelas. Go PK! Oh yeah, and a 50+ point season would be nice too!
